POSITION OVERVIEW
BDC Capital is the investment arm of BDC that acts as a strategic partner to Canada's most innovative and high potential companies.
The Growth & Transition Capital team, a division of BDC Capital, provides customized capital solutions that support growth, acquisitions and ownerships transitions. As the Director, Growth & Transition Capital you will play a key role in originating, structuring and managing customized financing solutions that bridge the financing gap between senior debt and equity – empowering Canadian entrepreneurs to achieve their next stage of growth.
CHALLENGES TO BE MET
- Originate high-quality opportunities through proactive and disciplined business development activities with entrepreneurs, advisors, and financial partners.
- Analyze, evaluate, structure and recommend customized subordinated financing structures - including cash flow loans, mezzanine capital, quasi-equity investments - to support growth plans, acquisitions and ownership transitions.
- Lead end-to-end transaction execution, including term sheet negotiation, due diligence, underwriting and presenting detailed investment memos and recommendations to the credit committee.
- Actively manage portfolio risk from post-closing through to exit by proactively monitoring portfolio performance and compliance. Conduct ongoing risk assessments, implement risk management strategies and recommend amendments as needed.
- Develop and implement value creation strategies for portfolio companies by leveraging BDC's internal resources, market insights and external networks.
Build and sustain strong relationships with entrepreneurs, banks, professional advisors and co-investors to raise awareness and enhance BDC Capital's visibility and market presence.
Commit to professional development and continuous learning by maintaining a personal development plan that identifies and addresses areas of professional development.
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
- A commercially minded finance professional who combines strong sales and business development abilities with sound financial, credit, and investment judgement.
- Bachelor's degree in Finance or a related field (MBA an asset),
- Professional designation is an asset but not required (CPA, CBV and/or CFA)
- 5+ years of progressive lending experience with responsibilities for new transaction origination, client management, and portfolio management.
- Proven business development skills and results.
- A highly developed professional network.
- Demonstrated negotiation and deal making skills.
- Robust financial analysis, risk assessment and financial modeling and forecasting abilities.
- High attention to detail and accuracy.
- Strong collaboration, interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
- Complex problem solving skills
