Job Description
Reporting to the Vice President, Finance, the Director, Finance will work in the Corporate Finance Group to ensure that the quarterly and annual filings – management's discussion and analysis, financial statements, investor supplemental, press releases, etc. – are prepared in accordance with Ontario Securities Commission and Securities Exchange Commission rules and regulations and in accordance with International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS).
In addition, this position will be responsible for assisting in financial planning and analysis, capital markets and investor relations activities from a reporting perspective which will require significant interactions with individuals internal and external to Brookfield Renewable, including senior management, external auditors, and external legal counsel.
Key Responsibilities
Review quarterly and annual financial statements and reports in accordance with IFRS;
Prepares and assesses support used for the management discussion and analysis sections of the quarterly and annual reports and investor supplemental;
Leads the finance workstream relating to debt and equity security issuances initiated by the capital markets team by collaborating with internal and external stakeholders;
Assists with the annual budgeting process and ad hoc financial planning and analysis requests;
Provides assistance with ad hoc investor relations requests and annual investor day;
Has a skeptical mindset and wiliness to continuously learn to further understanding of accounting standards, business performance and industry trends;
Analyzes results and data received with skepticism and critical thinking to ensure it meets the appropriate financing reporting requirements and a willingness to challenge others as needed;
Directs the research, interpretation, and application of new accounting standards/guidelines to assess potential impacts on financial reporting activities including the financial statements and reporting structure;
Manage the external audit process including the corporate finance team during quarterly reviews and annual external audits to meet various deadlines;
Modifies existing and/or designs new processes that maximize operational efficiency including the implementation of new technology;
Owns internal controls for the financial reporting process to meet SOX requirements;
Fulfill ad hoc projects to assist with information requests, including for senior management and rating agencies;
Commitment to the development of the finance team through coaching and opportunities to promote an environment of continuous learning.
Key Requirements / Qualifications
Professional designation: CA or CPA with 7–10 years of progressively senior experience in accounting or finance, including 2–3 years of people leadership.
Technical expertise: Experience with consolidation software (e.g., OneStream) and familiarity with XBRL; background in renewable energy or asset management is considered an asset.
Business & analytical acumen: Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and ability to translate complex financial information into clear insights.
Communication & negotiation: Excellent written and verbal communication skills; able to explain complex issues clearly and use tact, diplomacy, and strong negotiation skills to influence and build alignment.
Leadership & collaboration: Demonstrated leadership capability, initiative, and the ability to build and maintain strong working relationships across all levels and with external stakeholders. Committed to team collaboration and to developing finance team members through effective coaching.
Problem-solving & reporting: Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to gather, analyze, and synthesize data into concise and meaningful reports.
Interpersonal effectiveness: Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively across diverse groups and functions.
