Ronald McDonald House Toronto encompasses a House for 81 families in downtown Toronto and seven Family Rooms in hospitals across the Greater Toronto Area and in Sudbury. The families we serve come from throughout Ontario, across Canada and around the world.
We are seeking an experienced, values-driven Director of Finance to join our leadership team and play a critical role in strengthening the financial sustainability, operational excellence, and long-term impact of our organization. This role is based at the House, located at 240 McCaul St., Toronto,
The Role
Reporting to the fractional Chief Financial Officer (CFO), the Director of Finance is a seasoned, hands-on financial leader and trusted partner to the Senior Leadership Team. This role oversees day-to-day financial operations while contributing strategic insight to support organizational growth, mission impact, and long-term sustainability.
The Director of Finance is responsible for financial reporting, planning and forecasting, risk management, compliance, and internal controls. Working closely with the CFO, CEO, Senior Leadership Team, Board Finance & Audit Committee, and external partners, the Director ensures Ronald McDonald House Toronto operates with transparency, accountability, and sound financial stewardship.
Key Responsibilities Include:
Financial Leadership & Reporting
- Develop, strengthen, and implement general accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls.
- Oversee all financial reporting, including financial statements, management reports, dashboards, analysis, and recommendations.
- Prepare quarterly and year-end financial results and support reporting to the Board Finance & Audit Committee.
- Lead the annual audit process and liaise with external auditors.
- Ensure compliance with CRA filings, charitable tax returns, government remittances, and other regulatory requirements.
Financial Planning & Strategy
- Lead the annual budgeting process and quarterly forecasting cycles in partnership with department leaders and the Senior Leadership Team.
- Provide ongoing forecasting of revenues and expenses, identifying trends, risks, and opportunities.
- Analyze cash flow and oversee daily cash management and investment portfolios in alignment with organizational policies.
- Recommend and implement best practices to streamline financial workflows and improve efficiency.
Risk Management & Compliance
- Lead, update, and maintain Ronald McDonald House Toronto's enterprise risk management framework.
- Promote a risk-aware culture across the organization and ensure appropriate risk mitigation processes are in place.
- Review, monitor, and enhance internal controls to safeguard assets and ensure compliance with applicable laws, privacy requirements, and policies.
Performance, Insights & Impact
- Translate complex financial data into actionable insights for the CEO, CFO, and Senior Leadership Team.
- Develop and monitor KPIs and dashboards that measure financial health and support mission impact.
- Partner with fundraising and program teams to optimize resource allocation, sustainability, and return on investment.
Leadership & Collaboration
- Lead, engage, develop, and mentor the Finance team through coaching, feedback, and professional development.
- Oversee and manage relationships with external service providers and financial partners.
- Assess and strengthen the organization's financial and administrative infrastructure, processes, and approval frameworks.
- Perform other related duties, as required.
Qualifications

About You
You are a strategic yet hands-on financial leader who thrives in a mission-driven environment. You combine analytical excellence with strong interpersonal and communication skills and take pride in building systems and teams that empower others.
Education & Experience
- Bachelor's degree with a professional accounting designation (CPA, CPA-CA, or CPA-CGA).
- Minimum of seven (7) years of experience in a financial leadership role, including at least five (5) years in progressive leadership positions (Director or Senior Manager level).
- Experience in the not-for-profit and/or healthcare sector and working with Boards is an asset.
- Demonstrated experience in financial planning, budgeting, forecasting, and advising senior leaders on financial implications.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP, financial reporting, KPIs, and fund accounting (asset).
- Experience leading audits, interpreting new accounting standards, and managing payroll and finance teams.

- Completion of satisfactory reference check, background check, and a satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Check.
- Strong leadership and coaching skills, with a collaborative and supportive approach.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities with a consultative, solutions-oriented mindset.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to present financial information clearly to diverse audiences.
- Highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic environment.
- High proficiency with Microsoft Office and financial systems; comfort learning new technologies.
