Position Overview:
A Veterinary Assistant will play a crucial role in supporting our veterinarians and technicians during high-stress, fast-paced situations. You will assist in delivering urgent and life-saving care and handling a variety of cases. The ideal candidate will have experience in an emergency setting, be able to think quickly under pressure, and possess excellent communication and organizational skills.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist veterinarians and technicians with emergency medical procedures and patient care.
- Prepare and maintain treatment areas, ensuring they are clean, organized, and fully stocked.
- Provide excellent animal husbandry, feed and walk patients, and provide comfort during their stay in the hospital.
- Handle emergency patients, including those requiring immediate resuscitation or stabilization.
- Aid in performing diagnostic procedures, such as taking radiographs and assisting in blood draws.
- Provide support and comfort to pet owners.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date medical records in our practice management system.
- Assist in emergency surgeries as needed, including prepping surgical areas and providing instrument support.
- Ensure compliance with safety protocols and infection control procedures.
- Greet and assist clients, handle incoming calls and messages, and ensure client records and appointments are organized; these duties are included in the coverage of front-desk.
Qualifications:
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and manage time effectively in fast-paced environments.
- Ability to stay calm and focused during stressful or emergency situations.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a team.
- Compassionate, patient, and caring demeanor when interacting with both pets and their owners.
- Ability to lift and restrain animals as necessary (up to 50kgs).
- Previous experience as a veterinary assistant, ideally in an emergency or critical care setting is an asset.
- Certification or formal training as a Veterinary Assistant is a plus but not required.
Job Type: Full-time

- Are you willing and able to work 12 hour shifts on a rotational basis? Our staff follow a 4/4 rotation alternating between 8pm-8am, 12pm-12am or 8pm-8am.
