Science North runs Canada's 2nd and 8th largest science centres and we have a bases of operation in Sudbury, Thunder Bay and Sault Ste. Marie. You might think that's impressive but what's really impressive is our reach beyond those areas. Our Outreach programming plays a vital role in strengthening relationships and expanding our reach, particularly across First Nations communities. We are working to connect with more audiences than ever before, reaching 18,000 participants over 71 communities in just this past summer During the school year we take our programming into the schools for a one-of-a-kind learning experience.

Science North is seeking to fill a one-year internship opportunity that will start as soon as possible. All applicants MUST meet the following internship program eligibility requirements:
- self-identifies as an Indigenous person, including First Nations, Métis or Inuit,
- must be a new entrant into the workforce, be transitioning to a new career, or be unemployed or underemployed and entering a new field
- resides in Northern Ontario
- must have not previously participated in an NOHFC funded internship
- must be 18 years of age or older
- must be legally eligible to work in Canada
- Once hired, must reside in either Thunder Bay or Sudbury – the position can be based out of either city
Position Highlights:
Reporting to the Senior Manager of STEM Outreach you will…
- Assist in developing Summer Science Days programming for First Nation communities, including content writing, building prototypes and activity stations, and organizing delivery materials
- Incorporate Indigenous ways of knowing into outreach programming, including summer science days and school outreach programs
- Liaise with communities to book programs and events, along with travel logistics and scheduling
- Deliver Summer Science Days programming to First Nation communities across Northwestern and Northeastern Ontario
- Deliver in-school programs to schools in First Nation communities
- Assist in content development for outreach exhibits that will visit First Nation communities, incorporating Indigenous Ways of Knowing and lived experience
Qualifications:
- Exceptional communication skills, possessing a high level of verbal and written proficiency
- Captivating program development and delivery skills
- Showmanship with an ability to engage large crowds (with science shows)
- Comfort with, and ability to, work autonomously often from remote locations
- Willingness and ability to travel extensively throughout Northern Ontario, at times solo, including evening and weekend travel/work
- Valid G driver's license reflecting a 3-year clean driving abstract (non-negotiable)

- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work inclusively and collaboratively with a wide variety of individuals
- Ability to multi-task and adjust quickly to changing priorities or organizational needs
