Who We Are:

Heritage Park is Canada's largest living history museum and offers visitors a chance to experience life in Western Canada from the 1860s to the early 1950s. The park features historical buildings, costumed interpreters, working antiques, and various exhibits that provide insight into the region's past. 

Job Overview:

The Business Development and Sales Lead is an individual contributor role responsible for driving new revenue through outbound sales and proactive business development with a primary focus on catered events and venue-based experiences.

While the titles includes "Lead" to reflect the role's credibility, and external influence, this position does not have people management responsibilities. The "Lead" designation signals subject matter expertise, market presence, and a high level of accountability for sales outcomes, positioning the incumbent as a trusted representative of Heritage Park within the community and event industry.

This role requires a strong working knowledge of all Heritage Park business streams and plays a critical role in generating new business through strategic prospecting, relationship building, and active community engagement. The ideal candidate is a self-directed sales professional who thrives on outbound activity, brings energy to external networking, and can compellingly position Heritage Park as Calgary's most unique and memorable venue.



Responsibilities:

Business Development and Revenue Growth

  • Assist with Dynaway maintenance system tasks including creating Work Orders (WO) and Purchase Orders (PO), assigning WOs to teams, and updating their status, maintaining data accuracy. 
  • Build, manage, and convert a robust sales pipeline across priority markets including but not limited to corporate meetings, conferences, galas, weddings, community and private events.
  • Execute consistent, high-volume outbound sales activity (prospecting, cold outreach, follow-up and reactivation). 
  • Conduct site tours and client meetings that effectively showcase Heritage Park's venues, services and value proposition
  • Actively generate new business opportunities through research, lead sourcing, and territory mapping.
  • Conduct consultative needs assessments and recommend appropriate venue spaces, catering options, and event packages to prospective clients.
  • Qualify outbound leads to identify needs, budget, decision timelines, and direct to appropriate business stream
  • Meet or exceed monthly, quarterly, and annual sales targets.

Community and Market Engagement

  • Serve as a visible ambassador for Heritage Park at networking events, tourism initiatives, tradeshows, and industry functions.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with corporate clients, event planners, community associations, tourism partners, and nonprofit organizations.
  • Maintain a professional, consistent brand presence that enhances Heritage Park's reputation and market visibility.


Collaboration & Internal Alignment

  • Seamlessly transition confirmed business to Event Planning and Operations teams, ensuring clear communication and continuity.
  • Work cross‑functionally to support a positive, end-to-end client experience.
  • Collaborate with Marketing on lead-generation initiatives, campaign follow‑up, and market insights.
  • Stay informed on product updates, pricing, availability, and offerings across all business streams.


Sales Reporting and CRM Management

  • Maintain accurate, timely, and complete records in the CRM system (Catrease or equivalent).
  • Provide weekly sales forecasts, pipeline reports, and insights into market trends and opportunities.
  • Use sales data and reporting to refine outreach strategies and identify new revenue streams.
Organizational Excellence and Wellbeing
  • Contribute to inspiring and immersive guest by supporting initiatives aligned with Heritage Park's mission and vision.
  • Foster an inclusive, respectful, and collaborative work environment consistent with Heritage Park values
  • Demonstrate responsible stewardship of people, collections, and financial resources through transparent, sustainable growth practices.
  • Comply with Heritage Park's Health, Safety and Environment Management System (HSEMS), including safe work practices, incident reporting, and adherence to all workplace policies.

Required Qualifications:  

  • Minimum 3 years of experience in outbound sales or business development experience; experience in event, hospitality or tourism is a strong asset.
  • Demonstrated success prospecting, qualifying, and closing new business in a competitive environment 
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and presentation skills.
  • Results‑driven, self-motivated, and comfortable with high-volume outreach and external engagement.
  • Strong networking capability and confidence representing Heritage Park in public and professional settings. 
  • Proficiency with CRM systems and sales reporting tools. 
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel locally for meetings and events.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment and manage competing priorities.
  • Proven ability to collaborate cross-functionally to deliver successful events. 
  • Strong customer service orientation with a commitment to exceeding client expectations.
  • Successful candidates (18+) must complete a Police Information Check as a condition of employment.

Special Clothing and Equipment: 

  • Business attire is required 
  • Appropriate costuming and safety equipment will be provided by Heritage Park when applicable

Special Working Conditions: 

  • Combination of office‑based work, on‑site meetings, and local travel
  • Exposure to indoor and outdoor environments, including weather extremes
  • May be physically demanding; ability to lift items, stand for extended periods, and walk through the Park during event setup and takedown is required.

Hours of Work: 

  • The standard hours for this position are 40 hours per week;   
  • The schedule will generally be five consecutive days per week (Monday to Friday); and 
  • Occasional holiday, evening, and weekend work may be required 
  • Flexible hours may be required to accommodate client meetings or events
