Opportunity

MacEwan University is seeking a Sexual Violence Response Coordinator for up to 12-month, full-time replacement term opportunity with the Office of Sexual Violence, Prevention, Education and Response. You will serve as a first point of contact for staff and students who have been affected by sexual violence, providing crisis intervention, support and information. You will work with the Sexual Violence Response Team and Primary Contacts to coordinate the university's response to incidents of sexual violence. You will also contribute to education initiatives, including the operations of a student peer-education team, contribute to strategic programming development, and lead initiatives to strengthen MacEwan's response to sexual violence.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Providing staff and students who disclose an experience of sexual violence with confidential emotional support including effective referrals to resources on and off campus, navigating and negotiating academic and work modifications, developing safety plans, and facilitating on or off-campus reporting when requested;
  • Connecting individuals who file complaints of sexual violence with appropriate primary contact and ensuring standardized response processes and best practices across the university, including response to respondents;
  • Collecting intake and case management reporting data and maintaining client files in a timely matter according to privacy and retention guidelines;
  • Developing and advocating for resources, policies and practices that strengthen the university's ability to respond to disclosures and complaints of sexual violence in a fair, survivor-centered, anti-oppressive and trauma-informed fashion;
  • Leading the development and implementation of response initiatives, including training and program development;
  • Identifying gaps and areas of risk in MacEwan's institutional response to sexual violence and develop and lead initiatives that will effectively address areas of risk;
  • Supporting the development, delivery and evaluation of sexual violence prevention and education initiatives;
  • Supporting the operations of the MAVEN Student Peer Education Program by contributing to content development, facilitating trainings and meetings, and student mentorship;
  • Facilitating training for diverse campus groups;
  • Consulting and collaborating with diverse campus stakeholders to develop meaningful and effective programming;
  • Developing and implementing campaigns and programs that ensure knowledge of and comfort with the role of the Sexual Violence Response Coordinator on campus; and
  • Perform administrative duties such as grant and proposal writing, preparing annual reports, meeting materials, that support the work of the department
SKILLS

You will have:

  • Strong intersectional and anti-oppressive analysis of sexual violence and ability to operationalize this analysis in professional practice;
  • Knowledge and skills in active listening, empathy, problem-solving, and the application of evidence-based strategies when responding to disclosures of sexual violence and providing crisis intervention, with an understanding of the varied impacts of trauma on diverse community members;
  • The ability to assess and provide a trauma-informed response to disclosures of sexual violence and coordinate appropriate referrals for ongoing support;
  • Client-service orientation with a proven ability to receive, retain and clearly transmit information related to disclosures of sexual violence;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with a proven ability to deal with sensitive situations with tact and diplomacy and a keen ability to engage with various stakeholders and build rapport with diverse groups;
  • Thorough knowledge of university level academic demands, policies and procedures;
  • Exceptional oral and written communication including strong presentation skills and a proven ability to prepare and present detailed reports and assessments;
  • The ability to coordinate and facilitate large-scale training and campaign development;
  • The ability to work well under pressure with excellent time management and organizational skills, together with effective decision-making and independent judgment;
  • The ability to work with students with diverse life and school experiences;
  • An understanding of effective learning strategies, student development and adult education;
  • The ability to establish, foster, maintain, and promote effective relationships with individuals, campus offices, related organizations, external agencies, and community-based partners;
  • Strong team skills complimented by the ability to work independently;
  • Advanced computer and word processing skills including spreadsheets, creative presentation design, and database management;
  • A high degree of intercultural competence; and
  • Strong leadership, coordination, organizational, collaboration and programming skills.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • A minimum of a bachelor's degree in social work, psychology, human services, gender studies or sociology.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience working in health or education sectors with specific experience in preventing and/or responding to sexual violence through education programs, teaching, or counselling.
  • Case management experience preferably in the field of sexual violence.
  • Experience leading complex project initiatives, preferably in a university or other large, multi-stakeholder environment is preferred.
  • Experience developing and delivering training programs is required, preferably related to sexual violence.
  • Experience developing and implementing awareness campaigns relating to human rights issues and/or sexual violence is preferred.
  • Experience in volunteer management would be considered an asset.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

  • The ability to work occasionally with flexibility in work hours is required, including some evening and weekend work.
