What is an Operations Manager?
The Operations Manager will lead production planning, execution, and equipment completion efforts for Enervac custom designed and manufactured equipment. Manage 25-30 hourly staff members. Develop and implement strategies to continually improve efficiency, accuracy, timeliness, safety, quality, and team growth. The Operations Manager reports to the Commercial Director.
What We're Looking For
The ideal candidate will have at least five (5) years' experience at a management level position in engineering or manufacturing industry. Experience should include such things as engineering, quality control, manufacturing/industrial engineering and industrial/process manufacturing. Candidates must have at least three years of previous experience in a manufacturing environment with complex products and multi-level bills of material. A four-year degree in engineering, supply chain, operations, or other related field is preferred.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Manage and lead all production departments including Small Parts, Welding, Assembly, Electrical, Testing and Shipping, coordinating with team leads in each department. The Operations Manager will report to the Commercial Director.
- Responsible for project completion and ensuring delivery dates are met.
- Coordinate between manufacturing and engineering departments. Manage and resolve discrepancies between manufacturing and engineering specifications. Interpret specifications or obtain clarification from engineering when necessary. Organize resources to ensure effective production of goods and services.
- Lead planning and execution of workflows, accountabilities, and goals for staff on a daily and weekly basis. Assign or delegate responsibility for specific work or functional activities and communicate policies and objectives to supervisors/staff.
- Develop and manage weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual production and shipping forecasts. Provide overall directions for scheduling, production capacity and planning to meet customer expectations.
- Plan production and ensure execution of production plans by establishing priorities, scheduling activities, monitoring progress, revising schedules, and resolving issues.
- Schedule all major parts, components and subassemblies for production. Coordinate department activities with related departments to ensure efficiency and cost-effectiveness.
- Participate in strategic and tactical management planning. Monitor and analyze costs and prepare the department budget.
- Oversee performance management. Measure and analyze the team's performance against targets and budget. Learn, master, own, and maintain our performance management tools (job tracking, productivity, etc.)
- Be an active member of the company's Joint Health & Safety Committee, including responsibility for the health and safety of production staff.
- Manage human resource activities within the area of accountability, to include staffing, performance management, salary administration, employee relations and other related activities.
- Comply with all safety procedures in each area assigned, including but not limited to, wearing protective clothing, special handling of chemicals, special handling of products, safety/rescue equipment usage, etc.
- Interact and communicate effectively with employees at all levels of the Company, as well as suppliers, customers and peers.
- Comply with policies, procedures, standards and rules of the Company.
- Maintain quality assurance policy consistent with ISO standards.
- Maintain work in a clean, orderly and safe manner.
- Punctual, regular and consistent attendance.
- Perform all other job-related duties as assigned.
Required Experience and Education
- Post-secondary education in engineering, supply chain, operations, or a related field (degree or diploma) is preferred and considered an asset.
- 5+ years experience at a management level position in engineering or manufacturing industry. Experience should include such things as engineering, quality control, manufacturing/industrial engineering and industrial/process manufacturing.
- Must have at least 3+ years of previous experience in a manufacturing environment with complex products and multi-level bills of material.
- Able to read, write, and follow verbal instructions in Standard English.
- Must possess knowledge of Material and Shop Floor Planning, Purchasing, and Inventory Control processes.
- Must be able to read and interpret equipment engineering drawings including General Assembly, Flow Schematics (P&ID), and detailed mechanical & electrical technical specifications.
- Must possess knowledge of Material and Shop Floor Planning, Purchasing, and Inventory Control processes.
- Strong people skills, and people management experience.
- Strong skills in ERP/MRP systems and processes.
- Ability to effectively manage projects of a lengthy, on-going, complex nature.
- Ability to provide vision and leadership in a critical area of Company business.
- Some travel required, primarily intercompany into the United States with exposure to varying environments and cultures at the job site, changing deadlines, strict time constraints.
Physical and Technical Environment
- On-Site Monday – Friday Days 5:30 – 2:30
- Must regularly lift or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift or move up to 100 pounds, using proper lifting techniques or other available resources such as lifting or moving equipment or help from another employee.
- Must be able to sit, stand, walk, reach with hands and arms, bend and stoop in a normal office environment.
- Ability to routinely travel throughout multi-floor office and shop area, walking, climbing stairs.
• Must be able to be on feet all day. - Specific vision requirements include close vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
- Clean and orderly manufacturing environment exposure to high voltage electrical and mechanical hazards and/or normal office conditions, changing deadlines and project requirements, strict time constraints.
