Job Summary:

We are seeking a hands-on and detail-oriented Assistant Financial Controller to support the financial operations of our fast-paced food manufacturing business. This role blends day-to-day accounting responsibilities with higher-level financial oversight, supporting budgeting, reporting, and internal controls. The ideal candidate has experience in manufacturing environments—especially food production—and understands the financial nuances of inventory management, cost accounting, and compliance.

Key Responsibilities:

General Accounting & Financial Reporting

  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with ASPE or IFRS.
  • Prepare vendor cheques on timely basis.
  • Manage full-cycle accounting, including journal entries, GL reconciliations, and accruals.
  • Perform variance analysis and prepare detailed financial reports for management.

Cost Accounting & Inventory

  • Analyze and maintain standard costs for raw materials, packaging, and finished goods.
  • Monitor inventory transactions and work with production and warehouse teams to ensure accuracy.
  • Reconcile inventory sub-ledgers and investigate variances between physical and system inventory.

Budgeting, Forecasting & Analysis

  • Assist with annual budgeting and periodic forecasting processes.
  • Provide operational and financial analysis to support strategic business decisions.

Internal Controls & Compliance

  • Support the development and maintenance of internal controls to ensure accuracy, compliance, and audit readiness.
  • Assist with external audits, bank reporting, and tax filings

Leadership & Collaboration

  • Act as a financial liaison between accounting, operations, and supply chain teams.
  • Supervise and mentor junior accounting staff or clerks as needed.
  • Participate in ERP improvements and help optimize financial workflows (e.g., accounts payable/receivable automation, costing modules).

Qualifications:

  • CPA designation (or near completion) is an asset.
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, ideally in a food manufacturing or CPG (consumer packaged goods) environment.
  • Strong knowledge of standard cost accounting, inventory valuation, and BOM costing.
  • Hands on experience with QuickBooks
  • Proficient in Excel, financial modeling, and data analysis tools.
  • Excellent attention to detail and analytical thinking.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.
  • Ability to communicate financial concepts clearly to non-financial stakeholders.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $70,000.00-$80,000.00 per year
