Position Summary

The Senior Accountant will oversee full-cycle accounting for a growing low-rise residential builder in Hamilton. This role is responsible for accurate financial reporting, project cost tracking, and supporting leadership with clear, timely financial insights.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage full-cycle accounting (A/P, A/R, GL, bank and account reconciliations).
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and year-end financial statements.
  • Track job costs, review project budgets vs. actuals, and report variances to management.
  • Oversee progress billing, holdbacks, vendor payments, and lien releases.
  • Maintain and improve accounting processes, controls, and policies.
  • Support cash flow forecasting and working capital management.
  • Work with external auditors, banks, and tax advisors as required.
  • Provide financial reports and analysis to ownership and senior leadership.

Qualifications

  • CPA designated or in final stages of completion (preferred).
  • 5+ years of progressive accounting experience; construction or real estate development experience strongly preferred.
  • Solid knowledge of full-cycle accounting and ASPE.
  • Experience with job costing and project-based accounting.
  • Strong Excel skills and familiarity with construction/ERP accounting software.
  • Detail-oriented, organized, and comfortable in an entrepreneurial environment.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to partner with operations and project teams.

Nice to Have

  • Experience with low-rise residential projects (subdivisions, towns, semis, singles).
  • Previous experience in a small to mid-sized builder or developer environment.
