Responsibilities

The Research Coordinator will be responsible for the preparation, implementation and completion of multiple clinical research projects under the direction of Principal Investigators related to the Oral Health Access Fund grant that supports the development of Community Service Learning Curriculum. The role will support the day-to-day administrative and logistical operations and participate in the analysis and dissemination of research findings. The Research Coordinator will assist in the development, coordination, and evaluation of project initiatives, and participate in the facilitation and implementation of the project through involvement in scheduling and conducting focus groups, initiating surveys with patients or other assessments related to the research. The role will liaise with a variety of stakeholders to build research capacity and ensure the successful coordination of all tasks to achieve the research outcomes.

Qualifications

Education:

  • Master of Science in a relevant discipline
  • Courses taken, or training, in health services research through the Institute for Clinical Evaluative Sciences (ICES) would be an asset

Experience:

  • 2 years of health services research experience (post-graduate) including experience with patient-oriented research
  • Cross disciplinary research experience preferred

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Background in epidemiology and knowledge of chronic disease (osteoporosis, diabetes)
  • Knowledge of Canadian dental care, health systems, and social service providers
  • Familiarity with regulations and guidelines governing research in an academic environment
  • Project management skills to manage multiple projects simultaneously from conception to completion within tightly prescribed timelines
  • Familiarity with techniques for updating, managing and extracting data from a research database
  • Ability to collaborate across internal and external boundaries to meet common objectives, improve outcomes and support work beyond one's own unit
  • Verbal communication skills to clearly express ideas in an objective manner, and adapt communication style to suit the situation and audience
  • Written communication skills with a demonstrated ability to complete detailed analytics and reports
  • Ability to work in a manner that models best practices in confidentiality standards
  • Attention to detail and proofreading abilities with an excellent command of the English language
  • Ability to work within a flexible schedule to accommodate the research group's events and activities
  • Computer skills with statistical software packages and other applications or equipment used to support the research project
  • Intermediate computer skills in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Ability to investigate defined issues, solicit input, and suggest remedies and alternative approaches that meet the needs of the situation
  • Proven ability and natural inclination to establish and build healthy working relations and partnerships with clients, peers, and external stakeholders in a professional, respectful and diplomatic manner
  • Ability to work independently and effectively as a member of the research team to achieve research goals
  • Demonstrated ability to research/investigate issues and resolve problems
  • Possesses a reputation for resourcefulness with a strong sense of accountability and initiative
  • Familiarity with University research policies and practices
