Associate Director, Clinical Learning and Resource Centre
Primary Purpose: To provide leadership, vision and direction for the Clinical Learning Resource Centre. The Associate Director, Clinical Learning Resource Centres, oversees the development and implementation of program initiatives, financial strategies, policies and procedures, that contribute to the overall vision and goals of USask Health Sciences. This includes meeting the requirements and needs for interprofessional teaching and learning, interdisciplinary research, accreditation standards, and outreach and engagement of the colleges and programs utilizing the Clinical Learning Resource Centre (CLRC). The Associate Director, Clinical Learning Resource Centre is responsible for the resources of the USask Health Sciences that support clinical skills learning and for directing staff to ensure that shared services are adequately and equitably supporting Health Sciences programs.
Nature of Work:This position reports to the Director of Academic Health Sciences and is the main point of contact for partners of the CLRC and university colleges and units engaged in the support of learning within the CLRC. The position requires leadership, vision, flexibility, and innovation in finding solutions for the conflicting needs of multiple stakeholders. The work is subject to multiple competing deadlines and complicated decision-making processes. This complex and challenging role involves effective relationship building and management with a wide variety of senior leaders, faculty, staff, committees, colleges and units, and external partners. Discretion and confidentiality are required as this position works with sensitive and confidential information. The position requires creative thinking, innovative problem solving, and sound judgment in decision-making, with a strong commitment to creating an exceptional student experience.
Typical Duties or Accountabilities:
- In association with the Director of Academic Health Sciences, provide leadership and expertise in the overall development, design, operation and continuous improvement of learning services to meet the needs of health sciences teaching and learning, research, and community outreach to ensure that the vision and strategic plans of the USask Health Sciences colleges and units are actualized.
- Work collaboratively with academic health science colleges and units to understand course requirements and educational goals to appropriately assign resources to fulfil course/program objectives.
- Effectively manage the full employee life cycle of direct reports including but not limited to recruitment, training and development, engagement, performance management, and discipline up to and including dismissal.
- Direct, facilitate and delegate tasks and responsibilities as appropriate to CLRC managers and staff ensuring effective coordination of staff to provide high quality services to academic and external partners.
- Ensure that resources are used fairly, effectively and transparently, efficiencies are achieved, duplication is reduced, plans and budgets are sustained, and that opportunities for new resources are successfully pursued. Develop and manage sound financial strategies for the CLRC in collaboration with academic partners and USask Health Sciences Financial Strategic Business Advisor.
- Forecasting, planning, and developing multiyear operating and capital budget frameworks for assigned shared service units.
- Lead the strategic planning within the CLRC and contribute to strategic planning activities for the USask Health Sciences implementing, monitoring and adjusting plans and priorities to ensure alignment.
- Coordinate the assessment of operational plans and performance metrics involving data collection and analysis, to support quality assurance, accountability, budget and resource planning, and alignment with college accreditation requirements where applicable.
- Develop a yearly summary for all academic partners detailing CLRC strategic plan, metrics, financial reviews, quality control evaluations, and innovation/research.
- Keep up to date on innovations and best practices in the areas of simulation-based education, leadership, management, and human resources.
- Work collaboratively and, build and maintain relationships with external simulation centers within Canada and internationally.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with central administrative units and other campus stakeholders to ensure the day-to-day service needs of the unit are being met.
- Participate as a member of various committees as required, representing the CLRC and USask Health Sciences.
- Foster a workplace environment that encourages innovative solutions, collaboration with other units, and outstanding customer service and focus, creating a learning environment, which develops the most efficient, and responsive work processes.

Education: Advanced degree in health sciences with experience in clinical education, Post Graduate degree in business administration, health care administration or a related field is required.
Experience: Minimum 8 years of progressive and related leadership experience in the area of supporting learning initiatives and the use of technology as appropriate, preferably in an academic setting overseeing functional units to provide a broad understanding of health sciences clinical education and the support it requires. Extensive experience as an administrator strong in communication, relationship building, and operational oversite is required. Demonstrated competence in planning, assessment for quality, human resource and financial management, policy and proposal development and team building are essential. Project management experience would be an asset.
