Job Summary

Reporting to the Legal Support Manager, the Litigation Law Clerk will be responsible for providing comprehensive litigation support to the firm's legal professionals. The successful candidate will be a key player in client service delivery.

Responsibilities

The primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Organizing and managing litigation files, including use of litigation management software (ACL);
  • Calculating litigation timelines and ensuring deadlines are met;
  • Liaising with lawyers and legal assistants;
  • Communicating in writing and on the phone with court staff;
  • Attending to service and filing of court documents;
  • Remaining current on court practices and practice notices from the courts;
  • Organizing cases for trials; including uploading and managing documents in Case Center;
  • Assisting with the preparation and filing of correspondence for human rights and labour board matters;
  • Other duties as required.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • 1-3 years of litigation or law clerk experience.
  • Knowledge of current legal policies and procedures.
  • Familiarity of Federal and Ontario Courts' Rules.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Adobe, as well as the ability to learn new technologies as necessary
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational, time management and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Bilingualism (English/French) is an asset

Sommaire du poste

Relevant de la personne responsable du soutien juridique, le ou la clerc en contentieux devra fournir un soutien complet en matière de contentieux aux professionnels juridiques du cabinet. La personne retenue jouera un rôle clé dans la prestation de services à la clientèle.

Responsabilités

Les principales responsabilités comprennent, notamment, les suivantes :

  • Organiser et gérer les dossiers de litige, y compris l'utilisation d'un logiciel de gestion des litiges (ACL);
  • Calculer les délais des litiges et veiller à ce que les échéances soient respectées;
  • Assurer la liaison avec les avocats et les adjoints juridiques;
  • Communiquer par écrit et au téléphone avec le personnel du tribunal;
  • S'occuper de la signification et du dépôt des documents judiciaires;
  • Se tenir au courant des pratiques judiciaires et des avis de pratique des tribunaux;
  • Préparer les dossiers en vue des audiences; y compris télécharger et gérer des documents dans Case Center;
  • Aider à la préparation et au dépôt de la correspondance pour les questions relatives aux droits de la personne et à la commission des relations du travail;
  • Effectuer d'autres tâches, au besoin.

Qualifications et exigences

  • D'un à trois ans d'expérience comme clerc en contentieux ou comme auxiliaire juridique.
  • Connaissance des politiques et procédures juridiques actuelles.
  • Bonne connaissance des règles de la Cour fédérale et de la Cour de l'Ontario.
  • Maîtrise de Microsoft Office et d'Adobe et capacité d'apprendre de nouvelles technologies, au besoin.
  • Grand souci du détail et de l'exactitude.
  • Excellentes compétences en communication orale et écrite.
  • Solides compétences en matière d'organisation, de gestion du temps et de résolution de problèmes.
  • Capacité de travailler de façon autonome et en équipe.
  • Le bilinguisme (anglais/français) est un atout.
