HIGH LEVEL OVERVIEW

The Customs Operations Manager is responsible for managing daily inbound and outbound customs operations for a global e-commerce company while enhancing efficiency, reducing cross-border costs, supporting rapid product movement, enabling supply chain footprint expansion, and ensuring compliance with all government regulatory agencies.

The position is open for candidates in the Montreal or Toronto area. 

Montreal is hybrid with 2 days in office, Toronto is remote.

EXPECTATIONS

  • Lead the Customs Operations team to drive continuous improvement and operational excellence
  • Manage daily operations with service providers and customs authorities in Canada and U.S.
  • Collaborate with the Compliance team to ensure accurate HS classification, valuation, origin, and FTA
  • Quickly identify and resolve issues that could delay the customs entry process
  • Track and report on customs operations KPIs and ensure performance targets are achieved
  • Build trusted relationships with internal and external partners to support trade compliance operations
  • Create & maintain trade operations procedures and processes – conduct training where needed
  • Monitor and assess global trade policy changes impacting customs operations
  • Foster a collaborative and supportive culture in a fast paced, changing environment

ESSENTIALS

  • 5-7 years of experience in trade compliance in Canada and U.S., retail or e-commerce industry a plus
  • Bachelor's degree in International Trade, Supply Chain/Logistics, or related field required
  • Certified Customs Specialist (CCS – U.S. or Canada) required; Licensed Customs Broker is preferred
  • In depth knowledge of the import entry process with U.S. & Canada Customs and regulatory agencies
  • Experience with HTS classification, country of origin, valuation methods, and Free Trade Agreements
  • Skilled at prioritizing under pressure and making sound decisions
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills
  • Strong team management skills with ability to lead team in ambiguous situations
  • Proficient working with large data sets in Excel, Google Sheets, or similar tools
