Job Description

The Senior Steel Detailer provides drafting, detailing, checking, and coordination support to Engineers, Project Managers, and customers. The role involves reviewing contract documents and engineering drawings and translating them into accurate shop and erection drawings to support fabrication and site installation.

What you'll do

Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities

Collaborate with Engineers, Project Managers, and customers to interpret design concepts, specifications, and contract documents and translate them into detailed drawings.

Develop and prepare fabrication and erection drawings, shop details, advance bills of materials, and CNC data using Tekla Structures.

Apply knowledge of construction methods, fabrication processes, and erection practices to ensure constructible and accurate drawings.

Review and check drawings for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with project specifications and applicable codes.

Support fabrication and erection teams by resolving detailing and drawing-related issues as they arise.

Maintain proper document control and contribute to quality assurance processes.

What you'll need

Qualifications

Education

Completion of a Civil Engineering Technology diploma or a related drafting/engineering technology program, or equivalent experience.

Experience & Skills

Minimum 10 years of steel detailing experience.

Minimum 5 years of 3D modeling experience using Tekla Structures.

Proficiency with AutoCAD and Bluebeam.

Strong understanding of structural steel fabrication and erection practices.

Knowledge of bolted and welded connections and welding symbols.

Ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and codes.

Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple projects concurrently.

Assets

Familiarity with CISC and AISC standards.

Knowledge of National and Provincial Building Codes.
