This is a professional position providing a wide range of community corrections and related services to adult clientele, as well as to the courts within a team environment. Duties are carried out under the supervision of the Provincial Manager of Probation Services.
Duties will include but are not limited to:
- Perform detailed investigative assessment and written court report (Pre-Sentence Report/court update) preparation functions;
- Complete intake assessments, determine client classification levels, apply reporting standards and develop case plans in accordance with risk/need profiles;
- Perform supervision, monitoring, and case management functions related to assigned cases with varying risk/need levels, including clients with high risk and high need classification;
- Ensure appropriate and timely intervention strategies are exercised, as well as make appropriate referrals for assessment, counselling and treatment purposes to community based service agencies for complex and/or medium/high risk offenders;
- Work as part of a divisional and/or multi-agency case management team in the assessment, planning, coordination, and delivery of services/programs;
- Recommend and assist in the development, implementation, maintenance, and amendment of inter-agency protocols, referral processes, and operational policies and procedures;
- Assist in ongoing program development and service delivery;
- Provide assistance, consultation, support, and collaborative problem-solving with respect to case and program issues to peers, courts, justice officials, etc.;
- Ensure quality service and program delivery within professional standards, operational policies, and legislative requirements;
- Represent Probation Services at meetings, workshops, etc., at both the community and provincial levels;
- Perform various administrative functions including completing detailed case notes and ensuring designated information is input into the offender data management system (MACI), completing and sending referral forms, duties related to Electronic Supervision such as creating schedules in the Intellitrack System, completing risk/needs assessment in an electronic format, etc.;
- Participate in ongoing staff development and training efforts, including the development and/or presentation of workshops, information exchanges, and public information/education activities;
- Ensure appropriate and effective case management responses to crisis situations; and
- Perform other related duties as required.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Applicants must have a Masters Degree in the Social Sciences, preferably in Criminology or Social Work, with considerable relevant experience or a Bachelors Degree in the Social Sciences, preferably in Criminology or Social Work with extensive relevant work experience;
- Demonstrated equivalencies will be considered;
- Must have strong oral, written, time management, and interpersonal skills;
- A demonstrated ability to plan, coordinate, and manage a wide range of casework services within a corrections and/or human services setting, as well as a demonstrated ability to work independently or as a team player;
- Comprehensive knowledge of the Criminal Justice System, Criminal Code of Canada, and relevant Provincial/Federal legislation;
- Comprehensive knowledge of human/criminal behaviors and special needs clientele and the ability to effectively access all possible community resources to meet the needs of our clients while ensuring a balance between the rehabilitation of the offenders and the protection of the victim and the public;
- The successful applicant must have a good previous work and attendance record and will be required to provide proof of an acceptable criminal record check and vulnerable sector screening prior to commencing employment.
Other Qualifications:
- Valid driver's license and accessibility to a reliable vehicle;
- Applicants must be eligible for registration with their relevant professional provincial registration board;
- Additional relevant education and experience will be considered an asset.
