Métis Industry Relations Liaison

Location: Edmonton or Calgary, Alberta

Position Status: Full Time (40 hrs per week), Permanent

The Otipemisiwak Métis Government is hiring a Métis Industry Relations Liaison to support the Intergovernmental Relations department. Reporting to the Director of Intergovernmental Relations, the Métis Industry Relations Liaison will act as a bridge between the Otipemisiwak Metis Government and various industries, facilitating effective communication, collaboration, and partnership development. This role involves understanding the needs and goals of Métis communities and aligning them with industry opportunities to foster mutual growth and develop and maintain formal relationships between industry and the Otipemiswak Métis Government. The Métis Industry Relations Liaison will work in a dynamic environment, often traveling to meet with community leaders and industry representatives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Establish and maintain both formal and informal relationships with key stakeholders and industry partners. Industry partners will include, but are not limited to those in the oil & gas and green energy industries.
  • Facilitate effective communication and act as a liaison between Otipemiswak Métis Government and industry representatives.

  • Coordinate meetings, conferences, and other events and ensure all necessary parties are involved and informed.

  • Coordinate accurate and timely communications in person as well as through email and phone correspondence.

  • Resolve issues and concerns promptly and efficiently.
  • Prepare reports to update the Director of Intergovernmental Relations and other relevant parties on the progress of initiatives and projects.
  • Ensure compliance with Otipemiswak Métis Government policies and procedures.
  • Identify and strive to meet the needs of Métis communities and industry partners.
  • Promote understanding and create a positive environment for collaboration.
  • Other duties as required or assigned.

Skills and Competencies:

  • Familiarity with industry-specific practices and challenges faced by the Métis Nation within Alberta.

  • Culturally sensitive and compassionate with an ability to engage with internal and external stakeholders in diverse settings.

  • Ability to analyze and interpret data to inform decision-making.

  • Strong interpersonal and negotiation skills.

  • Ability to produce professional documents, reports, and presentations.

  • Ability to remain organized, multi-task, and manage time effectively under tight and competing deadlines.
  • Ability to thrive in a dynamic environment and be adaptable and flexible to changing priorities.
  • Knowledge of Métis history, culture, and economic reconciliation issues affecting Métis people. An in-depth understanding of the Otipemisiwak Métis Government and Métis culture is an asset.

Qualifications:

  • Post-secondary degree/diploma in Indigenous Studies, Political Science, or related field. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

  • Knowledge of industry standards and regulations.

  • Proven ability to build strong relationships with Indigenous communities and various industries.
  • Knowledge or experience in the Consultation processes in Alberta and Canada.
  • Experience in project management and coordination.

Other Requirements:

  • Position will be based out of Edmonton or Calgary, Alberta.

  • Ability to work a regular schedule of Monday – Friday, 8:30 AM – 4:30 PM, with occasional evenings and weekends.

  • Travel within Alberta is required. Additional, less frequent, out-of-province travel may also occur, with notice.
  • Must have a driver's license, as well as an operational vehicle.
