We are currently seeking an experienced part-time pastry chef to join our dedicated kitchen team. In this role, you will be responsible for producing and finishing a range of high-quality baked goods, including pastries, cakes, and tarts, while also assisting with daily prep work.
The ideal candidate is driven, detail-oriented, and enthusiastic about honing their craft in a fast-paced, collaborative environment. A strong interest in pastry technique, a commitment to cleanliness, and a deep sense of pride in your work are essential. At Duchess, all of our items are made from scratch using premium ingredients—care and precision are key to everything we do.

Our talented bakery team members help in all aspects of our product creation process. Responsibilities include:
- Scaling recipes with care and precision
- Sheeting, shaping, and preparing doughs
- Building and finishing pastries and desserts
- Making from scratch jams, fillings, mousses, etc.
- Adhering to cleanliness and sanitization standards
- Monitoring equipment concerns and notifying management
- Performing daily inventory
- Using equipment and machinery in a safe and responsible manner
- Ability to perform some station tasks independently
- Ensuring the quality of products meet our standards (FIFO, tasting all products used, being aware of product dates)
- Working quickly and efficiently, multitasking when needed
- Maintaining a calm demeanor during periods of high volume
- Knowledge of general baking principals and understanding of techniques used in the kitchen

About the position:
- Hours of work: This is a part-time position (between 24 and 29 hours a week) with a consistent schedule. Weekend availability is required
- Location: Duchess' Production Kitchen St. NW)
Essential Functions:
- Ability to lift and carry up to 44lbs.
- Ability to stand for extended periods of time (up to 8 hours)
- Availability for mornings, weekends and holidays
Qualifications & Experience:
- Prior experience working in a mid to high-volume bakery production
- 1+ years pastry experience
- Food Safety Certification an asset
