About us
We are an import and export company specializing in the food industry, and we are seeking a highly knowledgeable and experienced Food Safety and Compliance Specialist to join our team.
In this role, you will be responsible for ensuring that our import and export operations adhere to the necessary food safety regulations and compliance standards set by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) , FDA and other relevant authorities. Your expertise in food safety, regulatory compliance, and experience with CFIA processes will be crucial in maintaining our high standards of quality and ensuring the safety of our products.
Responsibilities:
Regulatory Compliance: Stay up-to-date with the latest CFIA regulations, guidelines, and requirements related to food safety, labeling, packaging, importing, and exporting. Ensure our company's compliance with these regulations and implement necessary processes and procedures.
Labels Generating & Review: Design and review CFIA- and FDA-compliant bilingual (English/French/Japanese) food labels; Conduct ingredient audits to identify unpermitted colors and additives; Ensuring all labels comply with SFCR, FDA 21 CFR, and Health Canada standards for ingredient declarations, nutrition facts, and allergen statements.
CFIA Interaction: Serve as the primary point of contact with the CFIA and other regulatory bodies. Maintain strong relationships and open lines of communication to address inquiries, inspections, and audits related to food safety and compliance.
Documentation and Record-Keeping: Develop and maintain accurate and comprehensive documentation related to food safety practices, compliance records, import/export documentation, and other necessary records as required by CFIA.
Risk Assessment and Mitigation: Conduct risk assessments to identify potential food safety hazards and develop strategies to mitigate those risks. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to implement necessary controls and corrective actions.
Training and Education: Provide training and educational resources to internal teams regarding food safety practices, CFIA regulations, and compliance requirements. Promote a culture of food safety and compliance throughout the organization.
Continuous Improvement: Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of food safety programs and compliance procedures. Identify areas for improvement and implement strategies to enhance our food safety practices and compliance standards.
Requirements:
Education and Experience: A bachelor's degree in Food Science, Food Safety, or a related field is preferred.
Previous experience in a similar role, particularly with import/export operations and CFIA regulations, is highly desirable.
Knowledge of CFIA Regulations: Strong understanding and knowledge of CFIA regulations, guidelines, and compliance requirements pertaining to food safety, importing, exporting, labeling, and packaging.
Food Safety Expertise: In-depth knowledge of food safety principles, HACCP (Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points), GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices), and other relevant food safety standards and protocols.
Analytical Skills: Ability to conduct risk assessments, analyze data, and make informed decisions to ensure compliance and mitigate food safety risks.
Communication and Collaboration: Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively interact with internal teams, CFIA officials, and other stakeholders. Strong collaborative skills to work cross-functionally and promote a culture of food safety and compliance.
Attention to Detail: Meticulous attention to detail to ensure accuracy in documentation, compliance records, and adherence to regulations.
Problem-Solving Abilities: Strong problem-solving skills to address compliance issues, identify root causes, and develop effective solutions.
Job Types: Full-time, Part-time
Pay: $20.00-$40.00 per hour
