Role Summary
The Business Intelligence Specialist will support the design, development, and deployment of Power BI dashboards and data models. The role involves working closely with project teams and stakeholders to extract, transform, and visualize data into meaningful insights that support strategic decision-making.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement interactive Power BI reports, dashboards, and data models.
  • Use Power Query to extract, transform, and load data from multiple sources.
  • Profile, clean, and prepare datasets for performance and usability.
  • Create data models that are intuitive, high-performing, and maintainable.
  • Write efficient M and DAX expressions for measures, calculations, and business logic.
  • Design and format Power BI reports with intuitive navigation and cohesive layouts.
  • Enable advanced analytics and statistical summaries for data-driven insights.
  • Connect Power BI reports to on-premise and cloud-based data sources.
  • Configure Row-Level Security (RLS) and automatic dataset refresh schedules.
  • Optimize Power BI performance, including queries, relationships, and visuals.
  • Deploy and manage Power BI artifacts within workspaces and Power BI Service.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to gather requirements and align deliverables with business needs.
  • Support documentation, testing, and knowledge transfer in accordance with OPS standards.
  • Provide production support, troubleshooting, and performance tuning as required.

Deliverables

  • Fully developed Power BI reports, dashboards, and data models.
  • Data extraction and transformation logic (Power Query, M, DAX).
  • Documentation outlining processes, requirements, and data mappings.
  • Knowledge transfer to project team members and stakeholders.

Must-Have Skills

  • Minimum 5 years of experience as a Power BI Developer or Business Intelligence Specialist.
  • Proven experience using Power Query for data extraction, transformation, and storage mode configuration.
  • Strong experience in Power BI report design, including report navigation and visual storytelling.
  • Expertise in data modeling, performance optimization, and relational schema design.
  • Proficiency with M language and DAX for custom measures and business logic.
  • Ability to connect and integrate on-premise and cloud data sources (SQL Server, Azure, etc.).
  • Experience with SQL Server and advanced query writing.
  • Experience building and deploying Power BI solutions in Agile project environments.
  • Strong communication and documentation skills, with the ability to liaise between technical and non-technical teams.

Nice-to-Have Skills

  • Knowledge of the Microsoft Azure ecosystem and Power Platform (Power Apps, Power Automate).
  • Experience developing advanced analytics features or predictive dashboards.
  • Experience with DirectQuery and Import mode configurations and limitations.
  • Familiarity with performance tuning in Power BI (measures, visuals, relationships).
  • Understanding of data governance, data management, and BI implementation methodologies.
  • Experience producing user documentation, visual content, and conducting stakeholder presentations.
  • Strong facilitation, collaboration, and organizational skills for multi-stakeholder environments.
