MedIT provides information technology support for the Temerty Faculty of Medicine. Our mission is to partner and collaborate with clients, University, and third parties to determine value based, sustainable technology solutions that enable the Faculty to achieve its academic mission.
We are seeking a Senior Data Analyst, BI Developer to join our growing Data Team. This role will work closely under the supervision and guidance of the Data Architect. The Senior Data Analyst, BI Developer will be pivotal in enabling data-driven decision-making at MedIT and other units at Temerty Medicine. You will ensure consistent, reliable and governed data, alignment with our data strategy, self-service analytics, and compliance. You will be responsible for end-to-end report development, data modelling, performance tuning, visual storytelling, collaborating with cross-functional teams clarify requirements, define KPIs, and support analytics initiatives.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Design, develop, and maintain Power BI dashboards and reporting artifacts
- Translate enterprise data models and requirements into actionable BI solutions in collaboration with Data Architect and other stakeholders
- Support BI architecture and cross-functional analytics initiatives, ensuring governance, data quality, security (RLS/AAD), and standardized KPI definitions.
- Manage BI delivery pipelines including CI/CD (Azure DevOps or Git), automated dataset refreshes, performance tuning (incremental refresh, aggregations, composite models), and deployment automation via APIs and scripting.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to define KPIs, requirements, analytics roadmaps, and promote data literacy and best practices.
- Ensure compliance and governance in data handling, oversee permissions, privacy alignment (PIPEDA/FIPPA), and maintain documentation, standards, and reusable BI components.
Essential Qualifications:
- Master's Degree with a background in statistics, information science, data science, mathematics, computer science or an acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Minimum five (5) years of relevant experience supporting data-driven decision making by conducting detailed data analysis and using large datasets, preferably in a post-secondary education or research-intensive institution.
- Advanced Power BI, DAX, SQL, and data model optimization skills; proven ability to build enterprise semantic layers and data marts.
- Strong technical skills: understanding of relational databases, creating scripts for performing batch uploads, and experience with Business Intelligence tools such as Tableau, Power BI, and SSRS.
- Deep knowledge of data warehouse/lakehouse architectures, ETL pipelines, and dimensional modeling (Kimball/Inmon).
- Experience with Azure Synapse, Databricks, Azure SQL, or equivalent platforms; familiarity with Azure Data Factory or similar ETL orchestrators
- Strong understanding of data governance, data quality frameworks, metadata management, security, and compliance in academic or public-sector settings.
- Ability to utilize statistical tools to conduct regression analysis, correlation studies and other statistical analysis.
- Familiarity with Agile/Scrum, version control (Git, Azure DevOps), and BI testing frameworks.
- Experience with Power BI REST API, PowerShell, or Python to automate deployment, metadata extraction, and reporting workflows.
- Strategic thinker with strong problem-solving skills and a passion for data literacy
- Strong oral and written communications skills to explain complex statistical information to decision makers, probe for information to establish needs and respond to request, and communicate data query requirements to other Data Analysts.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Ability to make meaningful stories from data.

- Experience with Microsoft Fabric, Azure Purview, or Power BI Certified Datasets.
- Exposure to data securityconcepts, including Row-Level Security, access controls, and compliance considerations (HIPAA, FIPPA, etc.).
