What you will be doing: 

The Family Time Support Worker (FTSW) provides support to marginalized children and families who have Children and Family Services involvement. This includes a significant proportion of First Nations, Metis and Inuit families, as well as, Refugee and first-generation Canadian families that have experienced the impacts of trauma and multigenerational abuse and neglect. The FTSW supports family time between parents and their children in the community and in client homes. FTSWs are actively engaged in hand-over-hand teaching with a focus on supporting parent-child attachment, reinforcing parents' strengths, and bolstering parenting skills by sharing content such as child development, play, structure, routine, and positive discipline practices. FTSWs support parents and children to successfully enjoy their family time together. FTSWs often transport children to and from supported family time. Additionally, FTSWs may provide occasional childcare. 
 

Work a regular schedule of either Tues – Sat or Sun – Thurs with a minimum of 2 – 3 evenings per weekSupport family time between children in care and their parents and/or significant others in their life. Amplify caregiver's strengths while modelling and teaching parenting skills, child development, play, structure and routine, and positive disciplineSupport parents with children in their primary care to learn and practice parenting skills. This includes but is not limited to child development, age appropriate expectations, relationship building, attachment, play, and meeting basic needsTransport parents and children as needed between appointments and scheduled family timeComplete formal documentation objectively Attend trainings and supervision meetings as required

What you will bring to the role:

Diploma or Degree in Human Services Field (Social Work, Child and Youth Care, Human Ecology, Early Childhood Development, Education, Psychology, Sociology, etc.) with related experienceExperience working with Child & Family Services and CSD is considered an assetExperience working with families from diverse cultures, especially Indigenous familiesProficient oral and written communication skills  

Background Check Process & Requirement:

As a part of the selection process, The Family Centre will conduct reference checks with your most recent employers. Police Information Check- Vulnerable Sector (completed within the last 6 months)Child Intervention Records Check (completed within the last 6 months)Our Children Are Sacred Youth Suicide Prevention Training or ASIST Suicide Intervention Training within 3 months of start dateStandard First Aid Level C CPR within 3 months of start dateRegistration with a professional body, if eligible (such as RSW)$2 million Vehicle Liability Insurance Reliable Vehicle, available for regular use and valid driver's license5-years Driver Abstract
