Position Overview:
As our Site Safety Specialist, you will provide support to internal Project & Field Services (P&FS) worksites and project training facilities in order to meet our obligations under our Environmental Health and Safety Management System .
Location:
On-site, Kitchener, ON
Regular travel to remote offices and customer sites required
Your Day to Day as our Health and Safety Coordinator:
- Perform routine risk assessments and hazard analyses by interviewing employees, reviewing processes, and collaborating with field supervisors, engineers, and technicians.
- Conduct safety audits, confined space checks, and industrial hygiene inspections, ensuring adherence to established EHS procedures and standards.
- Update and manage the EHS management system, tracking compliance, documenting training, safety events, and record keeping using tools like Gensuite and Learning Management System.
- Coordinate and deliver safety training and orientations, including new hire EHS onboarding and contractor safety briefings.
- Lead or assist with incident investigations, root cause analysis, and the implementation of corrective actions for near-misses and injury events.
- Engage with cross-functional teams, safety committees, and external regulators to continuously promote and enhance BWXT's safety culture and regulatory compliance.
Required Qualifications:
- Post-secondary education (4-year bachelor's degree, or a 2-year certificate in occupational health and safety or equivalent)
- Minimum of 4 years of experience in role related to occupational health and safety;
- Previous experience in the general construction or nuclear industry is an asset
- Strong overall knowledge of applicable environmental statutes and safety regulations
- Knowledge of applicable Canadian EHS regulations and standards.
- Ability to think creatively in providing effective solutions to complex problems
- Self-motivated, enthusiastic team player with excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Security Clearance:
This role requires the successful candidate to complete the security clearance process. The security clearance process is conducted in accordance with applicable regulatory requirements of the Canadian Security Intelligence Service (CSIS) and the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC) and may take up to 12 months to complete.

The base salary range for this position in Ontario at the start of employment is expected to be between $73,000 and $106,000 per year. However, the base salary offered is based on local job market factors and may vary further depending on factors specific to the selected job candidate, such as job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and other objective business considerations. Subject to these considerations, the total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, such as an annual cash incentive in addition to a full range of medical, retirement, and/or other benefits. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided at such time the selected job candidate receives an offer of employment.
