Laser Operator

Job Summary

The Laser Operator performs daily duties on the machine preparing jobs working with NC Express software and cutting parts on the Laser. Organizing parts for laser cutting to optimize the use of full sheets to cut down on waste, as well as working closely with Design Engineering.

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

• Perform proper set up for cutting operations and select correct cutting program

• Must have knowledge of gas settings

• Establish proper stop location and adjust laser focal point

• Review all nests for sheet utilization and accuracy

• Ensure production schedule is followed as allocated by scheduling department

• Perform minor maintenance and cleaning of cutting equipment and work area

• Perform general preventative equipment maintenance and ensure minimal downtime

• Check and maintain machine daily to ensure functionality Working in NC Express software

• Set up and operate laser, program, set up and operate raw material tower

• Manage, control and provide input for the flow of materials and information

• Read and understand blueprints, drawings, and engineering information

• Keeping parts organized throughout the order

• Organize parts for laser cutting to minimize waste and optimize use of full sheets of steel

• Cutting parts on the Laser

• Must be comfortable using verniers and micrometers

• Prepare and load raw materials into machine and storage tower

• Inspect and measure finished parts to drawing specifications to determine if the process has been completed properly or not

• Operate machine and make any necessary adjustments to produce better results

• Cleanliness is a major key, we promote clean, tidy and safe work environments

• Able to detect and report defective materials or questionable conditions

• Must concentrate on tasks over extended periods without interruptions.

• Must be able to concentrate on fine detail and maintain accuracy levels.

• Ability to read, understand and follow WIP sheet

• Knowledge of the scanning procedure

• Additional duties as assigned by Supervisor

• Brings major problems or problems that will affect other areas to the attention of supervision.

• Knowledge of the workers responsibilities under the OH&SA

MENTAL EFFORT REQUIRED TO PERFORM THE JOB:

JOB REQUIREMENTS

• 1-3 years' experience operating CO2 Lasers

• Familiarity with sheet metal flat patterns

• Basic mechanical skills and knowledge of essential machine maintenance

• Computer skills

• Possess excellent verbal and written communication skills for a demanding and customer-focused work environment

• Problem solving

• Excellent organizational skills

• Able to read and interpret blueprint and engineering drawings A motivated team player with a "can-do" attitude that can troubleshoot, focus and organize a work area

• Possess the ability to work productively, efficiently, and effectively while maintaining high attention to detail and quality

• Quick learner with the ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment

• Willingness to assist other plant personnel when required

• Identify and understand different grades of material

• Proper monitoring of cutting process to ensure consistent results

• Must be able to lift at least 50lbs.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

• works in a factory environment where noise is a problem and requires the wearing of hearing protection devices, safety glasses, safety boots.
