Overview

The Downtown Development Assistant provides critical support through the improvement, execution and development of programs, processes, and engagement in support of Downtown Development and Innovation strategies, plans and priorities.

This position may include evenings and weekends.

Responsibilities

  • Research, analyze and help develop strategies and special projects specific to Downtown (e.g. Retail Attraction Strategy, DTK Visioning, Pedestrianization of Downtown, Holiday Activations etc.).
  • Promotes, and administers, the Downtown Financial Incentives Program.
  • Communicates, assists, and supports developers, building owners, real estate agents, business owners with inquiries and concerns.
  • Responsible for the Operation of SQ Peg and attracting new business.
  • Administrative support for programming, budgeting, payroll permits and invoicing.
  • Processes patio renewal applications.
  • Coordinates seasonal streetscape operations with Downtown Operations Team.
  • Supports the Downtown Marketing and Program Coordinator in branding and communication activities (e.g. Website management, @DTKitchener, Monthly e-newsletter).
  • Supports the Downtown Marketing and Program Coordinator with implementation of the Downtown Live program.
  • Provides on-site support for events and programming when needed.
  • Maintains Downtown Database & business inventory. (CRM).
  • Administers the Downtown Action and Advisory Committee and various downtown working groups.
  • Monitors external social media activity on behalf of Downtown Kitchener.
  • Provides background research on key topics, trends, and programs.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Education

Grade 12 diploma with up to one year of additional job-related post -secondary education.

Experience

Minimum of 1 year of related experience including administrative and marketing program support.

  • Requirement to work hours other than the traditional workday, including evenings, weekends, holidays (outside work related to events, and business visits in the core).
  • Reliable with a good attitude and employment record.
