The Opportunity.
Smart & Biggar is currently looking for a Business Development Coordinator to join our national Business Development & Marketing team.
As the Business Development Coordinator, you will provide hands-on support of the execution of BD initiatives and coordinating activities that directly contribute to the firm's growth and client engagement in collaboration with the broader BD team, the central Marketing team, and practitioners across the firm.
Responsibilities.
- Draft and coordinate legal directory submissions (e.g., Chambers, IAM, WTR, Lexpert)
- Assist in maintaining the firm's matter and experience database for use in pitches and BD and marketing materials
- Support logistics for lawyer attendance and participation in firm-hosted and third-party events
- Coordinate logistics for client hosting, including reservations, tracking, and follow-up
- Manage deliverables, branding, and logistics for sponsorships and external events
- Maintain client and contact records, activities, and engagement history in the CRM system
- Create distribution lists, send invites, track responses, and support follow-up communications
- Assist with contact management and database cleanup across systems
- Track and report on BD activities and initiatives
- Assist with the preparation of pitch materials, proposals, and capability statements
- Other duties may be assigned or amended as required
Qualifications, competencies, and experience.
- Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Communications, Business, or a related field
- 2+ years of experience in a BD and/or marketing role, preferably in in a law firm or professional services firm
- Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to manage multiple tasks
- Proficient in Microsoft Office; familiarity with CRM systems (e.g., Microsoft Dynamics) and tools like InDesign or Canva is an asset
- Knowledge of IP or the legal sector is a strong asset
