About the Firm
We are a growing Ontario law firm with a strong practice in civil litigation, personal injury, accident benefits (SABS), and real estate law. We are seeking a highly experienced, detail-oriented Law Clerk who can manage files independently, support counsel in complex matters, and contribute to efficient, client-focused legal services.
Position Summary
The successful candidate will play a key role in managing litigation and transactional files from intake to resolution, with minimal supervision. This role requires strong procedural knowledge, exceptional organization, and the ability to handle high-volume and complex matters across multiple practice areas.
Key ResponsibilitiesCivil Litigation
- Manage files under the Rules of Civil Procedure (Ontario) from commencement to trial
- Draft, prepare, and file:
- Statements of Claim, Defence, Reply
- Motions Records, Facta, Affidavits, Undertakings Charts
- Certificates of Pending Litigation (CPL)
- Settlement briefs and trial binders
- Coordinate Examinations for Discovery, mediations, pre-trials, and motions
- Prepare correspondence with opposing counsel, courts, and clients
- Monitor deadlines, limitation periods, and court schedules
Personal Injury
- Handle motor vehicle accident (MVA) litigation files
- Draft and manage pleadings, medical briefs, and damages summaries
- Organize and analyze medical-legal documentation
- Assist with settlement negotiations and mediation preparation
- Coordinate expert reports and assessments
Accident Benefits (SABS – Ontario)
- Manage SABS claims under the Statutory Accident Benefits Schedule
- Prepare and submit:
- OCF-1, OCF-2, OCF-3, OCF-5, OCF-6, OCF-18, OCF-19, OCF-21
- Liaise with insurers, adjusters, medical providers, and rehabilitation companies
- Track benefit denials, LAT timelines, and insurer responses
- Prepare LAT Applications, Case Conference Briefs, and supporting records
Real Estate Law (Residential & Commercial)
- Manage real estate transactions from agreement to closing
- Prepare and review:
- Purchase and Sale documentation
- Requisitions, Title Searches, and Closing Documents
- Mortgage instructions and reporting letters
- Liaise with lenders, brokers, clients, and opposing counsel
- Handle registrations using Teraview
- Ensure compliance with LSO and lender requirements
Administrative & Practice Management
- Open, maintain, and close files in accordance with firm policies
- Manage trust accounting documentation (where applicable)
- Maintain accurate docketing and limitation tracking
- Use legal software (Leap / Cosmolex)
- Maintain professional communication with clients and third parties
- Assist with mentoring junior staff when required
Required Qualifications
- 3+ years of Law Clerk experience in Ontario (multidisciplinary preferred)
- Diploma in Law Clerk or equivalent experience
- Strong working knowledge of:
- Ontario Rules of Civil Procedure
- SABS & LAT procedures
- Land Titles & Registry systems
- Ability to manage files independently and proactively
- Excellent drafting, organizational, and time-management skills
- Close attention to detail and ability to meet strict deadlines
Technical Skills
- Proficiency in:
- Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel
- Teraview
- Legal practice management software
- Comfortable with electronic filing systems (Courts & LAT)
