Job DescriptionAECOM is seeking a highly motivated and experienced VP, Business Development to join our growing Aecom Advisory practice in Toronto, Canada. This is a key leadership role responsible for establishing and expanding our advisory services footprint within the infrastructure investor community.
Aecom Advisory is a new, executive-level strategic advisory group within Aecom. Our core value proposition is unique in the market: we combine high-level strategic, financial, and commercial advice with the unparalleled technical, engineering, and project delivery expertise of Aecom's global network. Unlike traditional management consultants, we provide clients with comprehensive solutions to complex infrastructure challenges that are rooted in deep, practical experience.
Reporting directly to the Business Lead for Advisory Services, this position will be pivotal in driving the growth of our practice. The successful candidate will leverage their extensive network and transaction advisory experience to build a robust pipeline and book of business with infrastructure investors, including pension funds, private equity, and developers.
Job Duties
As a key member of the Advisory leadership team, your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
- Strategic Business Development: Develop and execute a targeted growth strategy focused on securing infrastructure investors as new clients for Aecom Advisory.
- Client Relationship Management: Build, nurture, and maintain strong, executive-level relationships with key decision-makers across the infrastructure investment landscape.
- Market Penetration: Identify and originate new business opportunities for transaction advisory, due diligence (technical, commercial, and operational), asset management strategy, and other strategic consulting services.
- Lead Generation & Execution: Drive the full business development lifecycle, from initial contact and opportunity shaping to leading the preparation of proposals, presentations, and commercial negotiations.
- Integrated Value Proposition: Act as the key bridge between the client's strategic and investment objectives and Aecom's vast technical capabilities. Collaborate internally with our diverse teams of engineers, planners, and technical specialists to craft integrated, value-added solutions.
- Team Building & Delivery Oversight: As a senior leader with a 'seller-doer' mindset, contribute to the recruitment, mentorship, and development of the technical and advisory team. Provide senior oversight on key client engagements as needed to ensure high-quality delivery and client satisfaction.
- Brand Ambassadorship: Represent Aecom Advisory in the market by attending industry conferences, networking events, and speaking engagements to establish our brand as a premier advisor in the infrastructure sector.
- Market Intelligence: Provide leadership with insights into market trends, competitive landscape, and client needs to help shape the future direction of the Advisory practice.
- Performance Targets: Meet and exceed established targets for sales, revenue, and profitability.
Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Finance, Engineering, or a related field.
- A minimum of 12 years of progressive experience in business development, corporate development, or advisory services within the infrastructure, engineering, or management consulting sectors.
- A minimum of 4 years leadership experience
- An established and demonstrable network of senior-level contacts within the Canadian infrastructure investor community (e.g., pension funds, private equity firms, asset managers, and infrastructure developers).
- Proven track record of success in originating and closing complex, high-value advisory or consulting engagements related to infrastructure transactions.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master of Business Administration (MBA), Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA), or other relevant professional designation.
- Significant experience at a senior level within a management consulting firm.
- Deep understanding of the entire infrastructure asset lifecycle, from development and procurement (including P3s and other alternative financing models) to operations and asset management.
- Direct experience leading or providing senior oversight on due diligence assignments for major infrastructure transactions.
- Exceptional executive presence, with outstanding communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
- A collaborative and entrepreneurial mindset, with the ability to navigate a large, matrixed organization to bring the best of Aecom to clients.
- Demonstrated ability to lead client-facing engagements, build trust, and act as a credible, senior advisor.
