Position in a nutshell:

The Behaviour Lead is responsible for supporting the behavioural needs of campers and supervising two behaviour support staff. The Behaviour Lead assesses campers' needs, implements strategies to support positive engagement, and adapts creative solutions for camper success. They advise wider team members on implementing safe, fun, and inclusive programming. This role is ideal for someone who wants to build their experience in working with children with complex behavioural needs and develop skills in supervising others in a team environment.

The Behaviour Lead will report directly to WCK's Connections Coordinator, who will provide supervision and mentoring.

As a valued team member, you will:

  • Implement safe, fun, and inclusive programming that supports children's physical, mental, and emotional needs
  • Develop and tailor creative behaviour plans for campers; design and implement child-led program goals to promote their success
  • Supervise and work alongside behavioural support staff
  • Support volunteers to positively manage behavioural challenges with campers, always considering the social, emotional, and cognitive development levels of each camper
  • Assist camp staff with group management, equipment setup, and activity transitions
  • Offer adapted and alternative activities for campers as needed
  • Model and teach friendship skills to help campers make peer connections
  • Offer a warm, caring, patient presence to campers needing extra assistance
  • Supervise and run programming in sensory room as needed
  • Report campers' progress, successes, and concerns to staff and parents/guardians
  • Maintain a safe environment via safety inspections, emergency procedures, and crisis intervention techniques
  • Evaluate programming needs and make recommendations for next year

Qualifications and experience:

  • Post-secondary education in a related field, such as behavioural interventionist, educational assistant, educational resources assistant, special education assistant, childhood education, recreation therapy, social work, counselling, etc.
  • Experience working with children with complex behaviour support needs is essential
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to lead and problem-solve
  • High level of self-motivation and willingness to learn
  • Strong ability to work independently and self-start as well as work dynamically in a team

  • A clear Vulnerable Sector Criminal Records Check
  • Secondary language skills are an asset
  • Experience working with children in crisis or crisis prevention training is an asset
