We're currently hiring Shift Control Technician Apprentices in the Equipment Performance Division to help us achieve excellence and drive business results. Our mission is to ensure Operations has equipment that performs reliably—every time it's needed. We accomplish this through strong predictive and preventative maintenance programs, continuous feedback from our trades, and a proactive commitment to solving problems before they arise.
As a Shift Control Technician Apprentice, you'll:
- Learn to maintain systems that fuel and control nuclear reactors and supporting systems.
- Assist with installing, troubleshooting, modifying, and repairing instrumentation, electronics, and electrical equipment.
- Work alongside experienced technicians to build your knowledge and confidence in a dynamic, hands-on environment.
Multiple opportunities may be available across various Bruce Power onsite locations. Shift schedules can consist of days, afternoons and night shifts dependant on business and work group shift schedule requirements.
This is a permanent, full-time position which offers a competitive benefits, compensation and pension package and is located on site in Tiverton, Ontario.

Key Responsibilities:
- Shift Control Technician Apprentices, having the highest regard for safety, are responsible for maintaining systems needed to fuel and control nuclear reactors plus ancillary systems
- On a shift or day basis, they are responsible for the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, modification and repair of the instrumentation, electronic and electrical equipment used to control systems in our facilities
- Shift Control Technician Apprentices may be required to work from scaffolding, in confined spaces, and in environments containing radiological, chemical, electrical, and mechanical hazards
- This work may be performed on a twelve-hour, rotating shift schedule
Knowledge and Skills:
As a Shift Control Technician Apprentice, you will be supported in developing the following core competencies through structured training, mentorship, and hands-on experience:
- Technical Foundations
: Gain practical knowledge in electrical, electronic, instrumentation, and control systems used in nuclear operations. Learn to interpret technical drawings, schematics, and system documentation. - Maintenance and Troubleshooting
: Learn to perform routine inspections, basic troubleshooting, and assist in the repair and calibration of control and instrumentation equipment under the guidance of qualified technicians. - Safety and Compliance
: Understand and apply safety protocols, radiation protection principles, and environmental standards. Develop awareness of working in confined spaces, elevated platforms, and areas with chemical, electrical, and mechanical hazards. - Tool and Equipment Use
: Become proficient in the use of diagnostic tools, testing devices, and maintenance equipment. Learn to maintain accurate records and contribute to equipment reliability through preventative maintenance practices. - Problem Solving and Innovation
: Participate in identifying equipment issues and proposing solutions. Support continuous improvement initiatives by contributing feedback and learning from experienced tradespeople. - Communication and Teamwork
: Build effective communication skills to collaborate with team members, supervisors, and other departments. Learn to document work activities clearly and contribute to a positive team environment.
Education and Experience
- Successful completion of Grade 12 and an Ontario Secondary School Diploma or equivalent (GED) as recognized by the Ontario Ministry of Education
- Must have completed a minimum of a 2-year Diploma Program from a College of Applied Arts and Technology in electrical, electronics, instrumentation/control or computer technology, or the equivalent as determined by OACETT
- Ability to successfully complete Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities - Apprenticeship Branch training program and Bruce Power specific training in order to obtain all relevant qualifications
- Experience with maintenance and troubleshooting of instrumentation and control systems within a nuclear and/or power generation station will be considered an asset.
