The Ministry Services division provides enterprise-wide support services for the Department of Energy and Minerals and ensures alignment with and adherence to related Government of Alberta policies.
The Business Services branch strives to enhance ministry performance, transparency, and accountability by providing strategic planning, reporting and evaluation services to support achievement of ministry objectives. It also coordinates and manages the department's engagement with centralized services, while ensuring staff have the necessary accommodations and workplace supports to deliver on their work.
Role ResponsibilitiesThe Business Services branch within the Ministry Services division is currently seeking to hire a Senior Risk and Strategy Advisor. This position is a part of a team of professional staff dedicated to support the department's enterprise risk management and legislated planning and reporting processes. You will play an important role in establishing relationships with internal and external clients to deliver on core responsibilities. This is done by consulting with senior leadership and key branch contacts within the ministry and with key contacts in Treasury Board and Finance, entities and other ministries.
Senior Risk and Strategy Advisor:
Reporting to the Manager, Business Planning, the Senior Risk and Strategy Advisor will work with senior management to initiate, lead, recommend, and facilitate the development of the department's enterprise risk management plan. This role will be responsible for leading the implementation of the Government of Alberta Enterprise Risk Management Framework within Energy and Minerals and lead the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of an integrated risk process for the ministry that identifies, assesses, assigns and mitigates key strategic risks to the ministry's outcomes.
This position will closely collaborate with senior management on strategic projects that require facilitation with stakeholders and partners who have varied backgrounds, interests and perspectives. The role will be required to assist stakeholders with widely differing views and perspectives on issues to find points of commonality towards achieving strategic objectives. Further to the deliverables outlined above, the Senior Risk and Strategic Advisor will also be responsible for:
- Lead and support large projects that are at the forefront of the department's priorities.
- Initiate, lead, and coordinate targeted research to address strategic issues facing the ministry.
- Maintain and develop new elements of knowledge on current issues and environmental changes that may impact the ministry's projects and initiatives or may require additional tools to achieve defined outcomes.
- Lead or support legislated planning and reporting deliverables, such as the ministry business plan, ministry annual report, input to Government of Alberta plans and reports, and preparations for committee of supply and public accounts committee.
- Support other business planning team deliverables and functions, such as performance measurement and evaluation supports, business continuity and other planning and reporting deliverables.

QualificationsRequirements:
University graduation in a related field plus four years progressively responsible related experience in enterprise risk management and/or planning and reporting accountabilities; or equivalent as described below.
Equivalency: Directly related education or experience considered on the basis of:
- 1 year of education for 1 year of experience; or
- 1 year of experience for 1 year of education
The following will be considered assets:
- Experience in planning and reporting, including leading planning sessions.
- Experience in risk analysis and mitigation methodologies.
- Experience as facilitator to develop, prepare and lead discussions with groups and stakeholders.
- Experience applying project management methodologies.

These are permanent full-time positions.
