Position Overview:
The Sous Chef supports the Head Chef in all aspects of kitchen operations, ensuring consistent food quality, efficient service, and a safe, organized work environment. This role is responsible for leading the kitchen team during shifts, and maintaining standards.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Team Leadership:
- Lead and inspire the kitchen team to deliver exceptional food quality and service.
- Provide hands-on support during peak service hours to maintain smooth operations.
- Act as a role model, fostering a positive and productive work environment.
2. Training and Development:
- Train, mentor, and develop kitchen staff to achieve their full potential.
- Conduct regular skills assessments and provide constructive feedback to team members.
3. Shift Management:
- Oversee and manage kitchen operations during shifts, ensuring efficiency and quality.
- Make effective shift cuts and schedule adjustments to maintain labor cost targets.
4. Food Quality and Standards:
- Ensure all dishes are prepared and presented to the highest standards of quality and consistency.
- Maintain compliance with health, safety, and hygiene regulations.
5. Reporting and Process Improvement:
- Provide daily reports on kitchen operations, staffing, and inventory.
- Collaborate with the Head Chef to analyze workflows and identify opportunities for improvement.
Qualifications:
- Minimum 5 years of professional kitchen experience
- Minimum 2 years previous leadership or supervisory experience
- Strong knowledge of food preparation, cooking techniques, and kitchen operations
- Excellent time management and organizational skills
- Ability to lead under pressure in a fast-paced environment
- Strong communication and problem-solving skills
- Valid Food Safe certification (or willingness to obtain)
