Ghostwriter for Life Memoir — 3-Month Legacy Project (Portugal or Southeast Asia)

Location: Remote + On-Site (Travel Required)

Contract Length: 3 months

Compensation: Project-based (includes all travel and living expenses)

About the Project:

I am seeking a compassionate and skilled ghostwriter to help tell the remarkable life story of my 75-year-old father — a man whose experiences span law enforcement, entrepreneurship, and personal resilience.

He grew up in Saskatchewan, spent most of his professional life in Alberta and British Columbia, and now lives in Kingston, Ontario with his son and daughter-in-law. His journey includes service as a police officer, sheriff's deputy, and corrections officer, as well as years as a serial entrepreneur who built and rebuilt through both success and struggle.

His story reflects triumphs and challenges — including battles with alcohol — yet his optimism, humor, and love for life have always shone through. This project represents his "last hurrah": a chance to record his life lessons, memories, and personal messages for his grandchildren and future generations.

To bring this to life, I'm arranging a three-month journey during which he and a ghostwriter will live and work together, either in Portugal (Lisbon or the Algarve region), or in Southeast Asia — with final consideration between Thailand, Malaysia, or Indonesia.

The Role:

You will spend approximately three months interviewing, recording, and crafting his stories into a cohesive, engaging, and chronological narrative. The goal is to produce:

  • A written memoir (book manuscript)
  • An e-book version
  • An audiobook, ideally narrated by my father

All travel, accommodations, and living expenses are covered, along with a negotiated project fee.

Who This Opportunity Is Perfect For:

This is a unique opportunity for someone who values adventure, connection, and meaningful storytelling — ideal for either:

  • A retired professional with writing or life experience who enjoys travel and conversation, or
  • A young creative or writing student eager to build real-world experience while traveling abroad and working on a legacy project.

Ideal Candidate:

  • Experience as a ghostwriter, biographer, or storyteller, or training in writing, journalism, or literature.
  • Strong interviewing and listening skills; empathetic and patient.
  • Ability to structure and write a compelling, authentic life story.
  • Comfortable with long-form writing projects and collaborative work.
  • Open to living abroad and traveling throughout the duration of the project.

Compensation:

  • Project-based contract; compensation negotiable based on experience.
  • All expenses covered — airfare, accommodations, meals, and transportation.
  • A once-in-a-lifetime travel experience combined with deeply meaningful work.

How to Apply:

Please include:

  • A short cover letter explaining why this opportunity interests you.
  • Writing samples or excerpts from previous memoir, biography, or creative work.
  • A brief description of your approach to storytelling and interviewing.

This is more than a writing job — it's a chance to capture a legacy and share a lifetime of lessons for generations to come.

If you're drawn to meaningful storytelling and the adventure of working abroad in Portugal or Southeast Asia, we'd love to hear from you.
