Position Status: Full Time (40 hrs per week), Temporary (May-August)
The Otipemisiwak Métis Government is recruiting for a full-time, temporary Summer Métis Family Connections Assistant.
This is a summer term position with an end date of August 28, 2026. Reporting to the Métis Family Connections Supervisor, the successful candidate will assist in enhancing access to, and the navigation of, internal and external resources for Métis Albertans. The Summer Métis Family Connections Assistant will have excellent communication skills and will be required to both take direction and work intuitively to support the completion of the department's goals and objectives in a professionally and culturally appropriate manner.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist Métis Albertans in connecting with Otipemisiwak Métis Government, Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD), and Family Resource Network (FRN) resources, information, and programs.
- Assist in developing cultural presentations to FASD staff, FRN staff, service providers, and other internal and external stakeholders.
- Assist in preparing materials for workshops, community events, and cultural activities.
- Support with event setup, cleanup, registration, and participant support during programming.
- Support outreach efforts by preparing information packages or resource materials.
- Assist in coordinating logistics for meetings, trainings, or community sessions, such as booking rooms, sending invites, assembling materials, etc.
- Complete administrative duties, projects, and attend meetings as required.
- Assist with data entry, filing, and organizing program records.
- Assist with inventory of supplies, resources, and program materials.
- Maintain confidentiality and ensure proper flow and storage of protected documents.
- Participate in job shadowing opportunities with staff across different programs.
- Take part in training sessions related to cultural awareness, FASD learning, community services, or administrative skills.
- Support other Otipemisiwak Métis Government Children' and Family Services (CFS) initiatives and perform other duties as required or assigned.

- Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to build strong relationships.
- Strong planning and organizational skills, with an ability to prioritize daily tasks and long-term objectives.
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
- Willingness to learn and develop new skills.
- Flexible and adaptable, with an ability to switch between multiple priorities.
- Ability to work with and convey messages to different audiences.
- Familiarity with Google Sheets, Adobe, Asana, Excel, and other Microsoft applications.
- Political and cultural sensitivity.
- Understanding of Métis culture and history or willingness to learn and engage respectfully.
- Compassionate, empathetic, and trustworthy.
- Knowledge of Métis history, culture, and issues affecting Métis people. An in-depth understanding of the Otipemisiwak Métis Government and Métis culture, people, and values is an asset.
Qualifications
- Obtained or pursuing a post-secondary education in Human/Social Service or a related field is preferred. Other relevant training and experience will be considered.
- Experience working in the Human Services field is an asset. School or volunteer experience is valid experience.
- Indigenous Awareness Training is an asset.
Other Requirements
- Availability to work Monday to Friday 8:30 am – 4:30 pm.
- Ability to work evenings and weekends, with notice.
- Ability to travel throughout Alberta, with notice.
- Reliable transportation and valid Class 5 driver's license.
- Acceptable attainment of a Police Information Check with a Vulnerable Sector Check, and an Intervention Record Check is required.
