This opportunity is with our Good Shepherd - HOMES
How You Will Make an Impact
- The HOMES program provides supportive housing to persons who have been homeless and are living with a mental illness. The recreation worker will engage tenants living at Wesley to reach personal goals and to engage in meaningful activities in the building to further develop the community here.
- Facilitating social interaction and community integration
- Support and encourage attendance and participation in programs
- Participate in programs as a role model, mentor and coach to tenants.
- Work with teams and tenants in program development and implementation
- Lead recreation programs on-site, and outings in the community
- Communicate and collaborate with Good Shepherd staff, community mental health agencies and community partners.
- Observe all health and safety rules and work in compliance with the provisions of the occupational Health and Safety Act and its regulations
What You'll Bring to Our Team
- Education and experience in recreation.
- Experience working in the mental health field
- Belief in and understanding of Recovery
- Knowledge of recreation opportunities in Hamilton
- Experience working both individually and as part of a team
- Proven ability to encourage and motivate change
- Creative, innovative, flexible personality with the ability to multi-task.
- Respectful and compassionate demeanor
- Must have driver's license and a vehicle available for work
- Must have CPR and First Aid or willingness to obtain
