You will be asked to specify which courses and/or labs you are applying for during the application process.  

Start Date: January 1, 2026
End Date: April 30, 2026
Rate of Pay: $24.87 per hour
Required Number of Hours:  2-12 hours per week, depending on the course/lab
Duration of Employment: Winter 2026 Term

Duties

The Graduate Teaching Assistant reports directly to the Instructor(s) responsible for the course.  Specific duties will be assigned by the Instructor(s) and may include one or more of the following:

  • Marking assignments;
  • Marking laboratory logbooks and/or reports;
  • Marking quizzes and/or exams;
  • Holding tutorials and/or staffing a Help Desk for students;
  • Assisting with general administration of the course such as email communications with students regarding assignments, and recording grades
  • Demonstrating and/or assisting with the demonstration of laboratories;
  • Videorecording laboratory demonstrations
  • Editing videos and preparing online laboratory materials
  • Monitoring safety in the laboratory in cooperation with the Instructor(s);
  • Invigilating examinations;
  • Collecting information for continuous program improvement;
  • Other duties related to the course deemed appropriate by the Instructor(s).

Skills and Abilities

Minimum qualifications:

  • Graduate student in good standing at the University of Saskatchewan
  • Demonstrated experience (e.g., undergraduate or graduate coursework, research or industrial experience, experience with specific software packages) that is relevant to the specific class or laboratory
  • Good English language oral and written communication skills
  • Completion of the University of Saskatchewan online Laboratory Safety, WHMIS, and COVID-19 training courses

Ideal qualifications:

  • MSc or PhD student in good standing in Mechanical Engineering with an undergraduate degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • Excellent English language oral and written communication skills
  • Previous experience as an instructor or teaching assistant
  • Familiarity with specific equipment used in the laboratory (if applicable)
