About the role:
The Hospital strives to deliver care that is centred on patients and families. Patient and Family Centred Care (PFCC)
is the provision of care that is respectful of, and responsive to individual patient/family preferences, needs, and values
and ensures that those values guide all decisions. Creating a caring environment for patients and families ensures
continuity of care and fosters a learning environment. Applicants are required to have a demonstrated knowledge,
understanding and commitment to this care philosophy.
The Nurse Practitioner (NP) reports to the Manager – Regional Bariatric Care Centre, and Medical Outpatient
Clinics,and in collaboration with the Medical Director of the Regional Bariatric Care Centre. The NP is responsible
and accountable for his/her own practice and works within the framework of nursing in collaboration with the
healthcare team to provide and enhance care for patients living with Obesity. The NP's practice addresses the five
domains of Advance Practice Nursing: Clinical Practice, Collaboration, Leadership, Research and Change Agent.
The time dedicated to each of these domains is variable and based on the program needs, although primary focus is
on Clinical Practice and will include advanced physical assessment and clinical reasoning. Care is provided within the
scope of practice of a RN (EC) therefore allowing the NP to communicate a diagnosis, prescribe medications and
diagnostic tests as outlined in the CNO practice standards for outpatients only.
The Regional Bariatric Care Centre is comprised of an interprofessional team involving many different types of
healthcare professionals, each with a unique and essential role in the treatment of this complex patient population.
The successful applicant will have proven ability to work collaboratively as a member of the team. The incumbent will
be willing and able to utilize his or her full scope of practice and at the same time support other members of the team
to do so as well.
Applicants must have the following qualifications:
* Unencumbered registration as a Registered Nurse in the Extended Class with the College of Nurses of Ontario.
* Nurse Practitioner certification in Primary Health Care or Adult streams.
* Membership in RNAO or NPAO is required.
* Minimum 3 years recent nurse practitioner experience in an acute care setting during past 5 year period.
* Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS) Certification.
* Experience in managing patients with Chronic Diseases
In addition, applicants must have skill and experience in the following elements of nursing practice:

* Able to work independently and a part of an interdisciplinary team .
* Strong coaching and mentoring skills
* Strong organizational, critical appraisal and analytical skills
* Regular and sustained attendance.
* Able to work independently and a part of an interdisciplinary team .
* Demonstrated commitment to the principles of Patient and Family Centred Care.
* Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS) Certification.
* Computer skills using Word, Excel and Power Point, Groupwise.
Salary Range: $65.210 to 70.750
