Position Summary
Our client is seeking an intermediate to senior
contaminant hydrogeologist, environmental scientist, risk assessor, or environmental engineer
based in
Calgary or Edmonton, Alberta
to support downstream clients. Candidates from other locations in Western Canada with relevant experience will also be considered. This is a unique opportunity to join a multidisciplinary team of over
80 professionals
, including hydrogeologists, environmental geoscientists, engineers, environmental scientists, GIS specialists, programmers, and support staff, working on complex contaminated site projects across Western Canada. Our senior team, with
10 to 35+ years of experience
, is committed to mentoring and guiding staff.

Qualifications
The ideal candidate will hold a
university degree
and demonstrate strong critical thinking, problem-solving, and project management skills. Key qualifications include:

  • Graduate or undergraduate degree in hydrogeology, geology, geological engineering, environmental engineering, environmental science, or a related field.
  • 6-12 years of relevant consulting or industry experience, including reporting and project management for downstream clients.
  • Professional designation (APEGA, EGBC, AIA, ASPB).
  • Interest in a technical lead and project management role, primarily office-based.
  • Strong work ethic with excellent organization, time management, and attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work independently or collaboratively.
  • Knowledge of environmental legislation in Western Canada.

Preferred Experience

  • Prior field experience in environmental sampling (groundwater, soil, vapour), data analysis, technical writing, and reporting.
  • Conducting Phase I and II Environmental Site Assessments, groundwater monitoring, risk assessment, and remediation projects.
  • Soil vapour sampling and vapour guideline recalculations.
  • Development and implementation of risk-based strategies and decision-making processes.
  • Creating risk management plans to support acquisitions and divestitures.
  • Experience with various drilling techniques, hydraulic conductivity testing, and monitoring well installation.
  • Candidates must have legal authorization to work in Canada without restrictions.
  • Preference for candidates with Western Canada experience.

Key Responsibilities
The role involves managing projects and serving as a
technical lead
for contaminated site projects. Responsibilities include:

  • Developing work plans and cost estimates based on project scope and managing scope changes.
  • Coordinating third-party access agreements.
  • Overseeing complex ground disturbance and implementing prime contractor management programs.
  • Proactively managing projects to ensure timely, efficient, and safe completion, meeting client expectations for scope, budget, and deadlines.
  • Mentoring project staff in field and office tasks.
  • Interfacing with clients, senior managers, regulators, and stakeholders.
  • Preparing technical reports and participating in technical meetings.
