About the Role: The Credit Manager (Prime Auto Lending) is a critical leadership role responsible for overseeing the daily credit adjudication operations for the CIBC prime automotive portfolio. Reporting to the Senior Manager – Prime Credit Operations, you will lead a team of credit analysts, ensuring service level agreements are met while maintaining strict adherence to credit policy and risk appetite. Success in this role requires a blend of strong leadership skills, deep analytical capability in prime lending, and the ability to manage complex escalations and cross-functional projects effectively.

What Your Day and Week Could Look Like

Operational Leadership & Strategy

  • Resource Allocation: Ensure an effective allocation of resources to meet or exceed key business unit performance metrics such as Service Level Agreement (SLA), Productivity, and Compliance.
  • Day-to-Day Operations: Manage the daily workflow of the Prime credit queue, ensuring efficient application intake, decisioning, and adherence to turnaround time commitments.
  • Goal Setting & Performance: Define, set, and monitor team performance goals, individual tasks, and KPIs, holding the team accountable for measurable outcomes.
  • Data-Driven Optimization: Utilize comprehensive data reports to optimize team efficiency, workflow, and resource allocation, ensuring business targets are met through continuous performance monitoring and quality checks.
  • Project Management & Process automation: Lead and execute project management and process automation initiatives related to process improvements, Loan Origination System (LOS) enhancements, or new product implementations within the Prime vertical.

Team Management & Development

  • Team Leadership: Provide day-to-day management, coaching, and mentorship to a team of Credit Analysts/Underwriters to build skill depth and consistency in decision-making. Lead team huddles and group meetings to communicate group strategies, policy, and procedure updates.
  • Training & Development: Engage in ongoing training activities to ensure the team is up to date on policy changes, regulatory requirements, industry trends, opportunities identified in QA reviews.
  • Culture Building: Foster a high-performance and engaged workforce by strengthening retention and building a collaborative culture of continuous improvement through active leadership in team huddles to share challenges and successes.

Risk Management & Escalations

  • Quality Assurance: Conduct quality assurance audits to ensure adherence to policies and procedures, and initiate deeper dives of the analyst's work when required.
  • Escalation Handling: Act as the escalation point for District Managers, Dealers, and Analysts for issues exceeding the responsibilities and authority of the Senior Analysts.
  • Conflict Resolution: Utilize strong conflict resolution skills to manage disputes with external dealer partners or internal stakeholders, finding solutions that balance sales effectiveness with regulatory and risk requirements
  • Risk Execution: Execute on risk strategy while weighing situational risk regarding Prime automotive applications.
  • Process Adherence: Meticulously ensure the team follows established operational processes for decision support to ensure efficiency, accuracy, and compliance with internal policies

What You'll Bring

  • Experience: 3 - 5 years of related work experience in a leadership role within a credit lending, fulfillment, or call center environment OR a combination of education and/or supervisory lending/funding experience.
  • Industry Knowledge: Extensive knowledge of credit processes in automotive finance.
  • Analytical Skills: Strong critical thinking skills with a proven ability to make sound decisions, solve problems, and execute thorough research.
  • Organization: Excellent time management skills and ability to set priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Technical Aptitude: Proficiency with loan origination software and intermediate to advanced user experience with Microsoft tools (Excel, Word, and Outlook).
  • Requirements: Successful pass of a criminal background check and validation of work experience.
