Canada Stripe Full time
Who we are
About Stripe

Stripe is a financial infrastructure platform for businesses. Millions of companies - from the world's largest enterprises to the most ambitious startups - use Stripe to accept payments, grow their revenue, and accelerate new business opportunities. Our mission is to increase the GDP of the internet, and we have a staggering amount of work ahead. That means you have an unprecedented opportunity to put the global economy within everyone's reach while doing the most important work of your career.

About the team

As Stripe continues to develop innovative products that serve businesses of all sizes around the world, risk will increase in complexity and scale. The Onboarding and ComplianceStrategy organization protects and advances Stripe's business, brand, and mission by building and deploying industry-leading policies and programs that instill user, regulator, and partner trust in Stripe while enabling business growth.

What you'll do

As a member of this team, you will have a deep understanding of Stripe's onboarding and compliance policies, systems, and controls, which include areas such as Know Your Customer (KYC), Know Your Business (KYB), and Financial Crimes / Anti-Money Laundering (AML). You will design strategies, develop standards, and drive risk appetite decisions that balance risk exposure with user experience to achieve Stripe's goals. You will provide expert guidance to Policy, Product, Engineering, and Operations teams in navigating complex areas to ensure compliance with regulatory and partner requirements while minimizing user friction.

We are looking for someone who is passionate about navigating ambiguity, enabling business growth while balancing risk, and is skilled at identifying ways to improve user experience.

Responsibilities
  • Drive onboarding and compliance standards and controls strategy for company-level strategic initiatives that balance risk mitigation with user experience
  • Partner with cross functional stakeholders - including Financial Crimes Policy, Product, Engineering and Operations - to identify and build effective programs and controls
  • Assess Stripe's current risk performance and develop and prioritize long-term strategic plans for future growth.
  • Represent Stripe in external engagements with our most critical partners and customers
  • Enable user onboarding to safely grow at scale, continuously optimizing for efficiency and effectiveness, and staying hyper focused on a positive user experience
  • Challenge the status quo and provide multiple alternative solutions and key execution criteria
  • Continue learning about the payments space through industry engagement and independent research, and scale your knowledge to others
  • Execute special projects/ad hoc analyses, as initiatives, products, risks, and opportunities are constantly evolving
Who you are

We're looking for someone who meets the minimum requirements to be considered for the role. If you meet these requirements, you are encouraged to apply. The preferred qualifications are a bonus, not a requirement.

Minimum requirements
  • 6+ years of professional experience, preferably in financial or tech sectors, particularly within a risk management or revenue enablement function
  • 5+ years experience in a related role (risk, compliance and/or product enablement)
  • Experience in developing risk strategies and programmatic solutions and working with technical (product and engineering) and operational teams
  • Ability to distill complex, ambiguous risk and policy problems into clear, concise, and reliable guidance for internal stakeholders and Stripe users
  • Exceptional collaboration and communication skills, with an ability to influence stakeholders across functions and borders, while remaining calm and responsive under pressure
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills
  • A results- and action-oriented mindset and the ability to lead and motivate others
  • The ability to take ownership, be accountable, and drive towards ambitious goals
  • Comfort operating in an ambiguous and quickly changing environment with shifting priorities (this is a must)
Preferred qualifications
  • Experience delivering execution and delivery of risk standards and controls designs
  • Ability to take complex issues and turn them into actionable next steps
  • Proficiency in one of the following: merchant acquiring rules and regulations, KYC/KYB, AML OFAC compliance
