SafePet Ontario is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Foster Program Contractor to support our lifesaving work helping individuals fleeing violence access safe, temporary foster care for their pets. This is a part-time independent contractor role — not an employee position — offering flexibility, meaningful work, and the opportunity to support families in crisis.

Position Details

Title: Foster Program Contractor

Contract Type: Independent Contractor (Not an employee)

Contract Length: 1-year term with possibility of renewal

Hours: Up to 24 hours per week

Schedule: Flexible between 9am–5pm (occasional evening/weekend needs)

Compensation: Hourly rate (paid bi-weekly upon approved timesheets)

Start Date: As soon as possible

What You'll Do

  • Coordinating new client intakes, foster placements, and reunifications

  • Providing case coordination and ongoing communication with foster families

  • Supporting clients experiencing crisis with empathy, professionalism, and confidentiality

  • Communicating with veterinarians, community partners, and internal teams

  • Maintaining accurate administrative records and documentation

  • Ensuring high-quality, timely, and trauma-informed service delivery

Who We're Looking For

Required:

  • Experience in social services, crisis response, violence against women (VAW) sector, or animal welfare

  • Strong communication, organizational, and time-management skills

  • Ability to work independently, manage multiple cases, and meet deadlines

  • Professionalism, reliability, and excellent interpersonal skills

  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality and data security

Preferred:

  • Registered Social Worker (RSW) or equivalent human services credential

  • Experience working with survivors of violence, trauma-informed practice, or foster/placement systems

  • Familiarity with nonprofit operations

Independent Contractor Status

This role is not an employee position. As a contractor, you are responsible for:

  • Your own taxes, CPP, EI, and insurance

  • Managing your own schedule within required hours

  • Providing your own workspace and equipment

  • Submitting weekly timesheets for payment

Contract Term & Renewal

This contract is for 1 year, with the possibility of renewal based on performance and organizational needs. Hours may fluctuate based on workload.

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $25.00-$27.00 per hour

Expected hours: 5 – 25 per week

Work Location: Remote
