Mobile Youth Centre Details

The Mobile Youth Centre (MYC) goal is to increase physical activity within youth in a non-traditional sporting capacity, as well as to provide recreational activities for youth and children that do not have access to traditional facilities or activities. The MYC will also focus on enhancing youth & children participation in activities within our community, by being inclusive to all.

Position Details

Working as part of the Sports & Recreation Team and reporting to the Recreation Coordinator. Working in a collaborative and cross-functional environment, you will exemplify excellence in customer services as a Mobile Youth Centre Ambassador and will be responsible for the safety, security, and well-being of children and youth participants at the MYC.

Mobile Youth Centre Ambassadors will be required to set up/takedown the MYC as required (i.e. skate park equipment, games/activities). Ambassadors will ensure that an inclusive, fair play and safe environment is present at all times at the MYC. Ambassadors will also be taking a lead role at the MYC and will be encouraged to develop/implement/interact in games and activities for MYC participants to partake in. This is a part-time seasonal position from approximately June – August.  permitted.

In addition, MYC Ambassadors will assist with the Summer Day Camp during peak registration weeks.

As a Mobile Youth Centre Ambassador you will:

1. Monitoring the use of the MYC including checking in all participants, ensuring the safety of all patrons, and encouraging participation.
2. Assisting with the MYC with promotion and outdoor events.
3. Setup/Takedown of the MYC (i.e. skate park equipment, games/activities).
4. Completing administrative duties as required (i.e., participant sign-in/out, equipment inventory and inspections)
5. Implementing games and activities for MYC and interacting with participants. Including passive MYC activities including but not limited to games, songs, crafts, and special events.
6. Leading by example and participating in activities at the MYC. Build and maintain positive relationships with youth and parents/guardians.
7. Communicating with participants to receive feedback on the MYC and determine areas for improvements/recommendations for the MYC moving forward.
8. Ensuring activities follow relevant policies and procedures, while also promoting social, physical, cognitive, and emotional development in youth.
9. Conducting basic equipment maintenance.
10. Ensuring the physical environment is clean and suitable for the operation of the MYC and communicating any concerns or issues.
11. Enforcing skate park rules and regulations in a positive, professional manner and implement behavior management strategies when needed.
12. Monitoring that all equipment being used is in a safe and appropriate manner.
13. Distributing and collecting equipment and supplies and maintaining an up-to-date inventory list.
14. Maintaining records and collecting statistical data as required.
15. Providing First Aid Treatment when necessary.
16. Performing other related duties as required.

Job Qualifications and Requirements:

1. Strong conflict resolution skills and leadership skills
2. Experience in working with children/youth ages 4-16
3. High Five Principles of Healthy Childhood Development (an asset)
4. Standard First Aid and CPR "C" certificate an asset
5. At least 16 years of age
6. Valid Social Insurance Number (SIN)
7. Acceptable Vulnerable Sector Screening
8. Work in various weather conditions (i.e., rain, cold, heat)
9. Must be available to work from June to August. 
10. Able to work in a flexible unstructured atmosphere.
11. Able to work at various locations throughout the Town of Innisfil (i.e. Stroud, Alcona, Cookstown, Lefroy, andGilford).
12. Must be able to lift approx. 50lbs with support
13. Transportation to and from work locations
