Infrastructure Ontario (IO), an Ontario crown corporation, provides a wide range of services to support the Ontario government's initiative to modernize and maximize the value of public infrastructure and realty. Position Purpose
The Natural Heritage Manager leads the strategic planning and delivery of natural environment and environmental due diligence in support of government initiatives, including the management of government property and the delivery of large-scale infrastructure projects. They serve as the technical lead for the natural environment program, ensuring regulatory compliance and enterprise risk management across IO and external partners. The role involves independently managing relationships with clients, regulators, and partners. Additionally, the manager advises senior leadership on natural environment and environmental risks and policies and contributes to staff development within the division.

What You Will Do

  • Lead the strategic planning and delivery of natural heritage\environment due diligence across IO business lines and external ministries/agencies.
  • Manage and execute natural environment regulatory requirements including survey and monitoring reports, mitigation, and applicable registrations, exemptions, and/or permitting.
  • Assist with Environmental Site Assessments (Phase I & II) under the Environmental Assessment Act, Environmental Protection Act, and Government Property Class EA.
  • Provide technical leadership in working collaboratively with stakeholders, regulators, and Indigenous communities to support their needs and objectives, communicate risks, and provide commercial advice and strategic solutions.
  • Proactively manage schedules, budgets, technical scopes of work, and proactive mitigation of risks
  • Monitor and develop environmental policies, procedures, and performance and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Support staff development and cross-functional collaboration

What We Are Looking For

  • Post-secondary education in environmental science, planning, ecology, or related field an asset.
  • Sound knowledge and experience with Canada and Ontario's natural environment legislation and guidelines and their application in infrastructure and redevelopment projects, including the Endangered Species Act, Species At Risk Act, Migratory Birds Convention Act, Fisheries Act, and the Provincial Policy Statement.
  • Knowledge of Ontario's environmental legislation and Class EA processes and experience in Environmental Assessment (EA), site assessment, and/or remediation
  • Familiarity with related environmental disciplines relevant to EA and environmental planning (e.g. cultural heritage, climate resilience, sustainability).
  • Knowledge of government procurement, contract negotiation, and stakeholder engagement.
  • Excellent communication, analytical, and project management skills.
