About Us

The Lands and Mineral Tenure Branch, within the Ministry of Energy and Resources, manages distinct programs related to the development of the oil and gas, and mineral sectors. The Oil and Gas Tenure Unit is responsible for the administration of oil and gas tenure on Crown mineral lands within the Integrated Resource Information System (IRIS).

The Opportunity

The Lands and Mineral Tenure Branch within the Ministry of Energy and Resources is seeking a highly skilled, analytical, and organized individual for the position of Team Lead – Oil and Gas Tenure. Reporting to the Manager of the Oil and Gas Tenure Unit, the successful candidate will supervise the disposition analysts in the unit. You will be responsible for the administration of the electronic registry for issuing Crown mineral dispositions in Saskatchewan, including leading efforts to enhance and upgrade the system in collaboration with business analysts and technical resources.

Our Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate will work independently as well as lead and supervise staff in planning, management, implementation, and support of oil and gas tenure on Crown mineral lands. Also, must be positive, energetic, proactive, hardworking individual who thrives in a complex, quickly changing innovative environment. In addition, you will interpret and apply legislation for the issuance and administration of Crown mineral dispositions, and research and develop policies and standards for the unit. The position will identify opportunities to increase operational efficiency and effectiveness and will develop and recommend business solutions.

As the Oil and Gas Tenure Unit works with a wide range of government and industry clients, the ability to build and maintain working relationships and to provide answers clearly and concisely to complex inquiries will contribute to your success in this position.

You will have knowledge of and skills in:

  • Applicable legislation, regulations, programs and policies.
  • Business process development and improvement methodologies, tools and processes.
  • Leadership with a demonstrated ability to build and maintain professional relationships with colleagues and industry clients.

  • Problem solving with the ability to identify, analyze and develop viable options, explanations, and solutions to complex problems.
  • Oil and gas industry.
  • Dominion Land Survey System.
  • Proficiency in use of software programs and systems such as Word, Excel, Outlook, and OneNote.
  • Experience with enterprise systems such as GeoATLAS (or equivalent software), Midas/GEM, and Integrated Resource Information System (IRIS) would be an asset.

Typically, the knowledge, skills and abilities required to be successful in this position would have been obtained through:

  • Relevant education, training and experience in the land management industry.
  • The completion of an undergraduate degree, diploma, or certificate in business, accounting, science, administration, or geology. Or
  • Equivalent combination of education and related work experience may be considered.
