We are looking for an organized, self-motivated professional to work as a Manager, Client Accounting & Tax Services in our Toronto office, assist in leading a team in one of our lines of business. What we are looking for:
We are looking for an Accounting & Tax Manager with a strong client service focus, excellent tax, and computer skills as well as excellent oral and written communication skills. They will work alongside another manager in our office to lead our Toronto and Montreal Accounting/Tax teams, providing support to both advisors and clients.
Job Overview
To lead and manage the accounting team in delivering accurate, efficient, and high-quality accounting and taxation services. Provide strategic oversight and guidance to the team promoting positive culture, efficiency, and timely service.
Responsibilities
· Oversee and manage compilation and tax engagements for companies who primarily hold significant investments through investment holding companies, partnerships, trusts, and charitable foundations.
· Lead, plan and execute tax season operations for both Toronto and Montreal offices, ensuring seamless coordination, timely filing, and compliance with local and federal regulations.
· Mentor, motivate and coach team members in Montreal and Toronto (virtually and in-person) towards professional and personal development by setting clear expectations, providing feedback, and conducting performance reviews.
· Exercise strong professional judgment and critical thinking when reviewing financial statements and personal, corporate, and trust tax filings—identifying issues proactively, assessing risks, and ensuring compliance with applicable standards.
· Conduct detailed review of Federal, Ontario, & Quebec personal tax, corporation tax, partnership, and inter-vivos trust and estate tax returns.
· Review of T3010 Charity Returns, Quebec TP form. and GST/HST/QST returns.
· Review of corporate, personal and trust tax estimates and annual tax instalments and coordination of remittances to respective governments.
· Review complex issues related to Notices of Assessment and government Requests for Information (RFIs).
· Review quarterly, semi-annual, and annual net worth reports for family office clients, ensuring completeness and accuracy. Analyze portfolio holdings and performance summaries, assess cash flow, and identify upcoming financial commitments.
· Lead the communication with clients and third parties with respect to preparing or gathering information and concerning remittances, instalments, progress of files, inquiries.
· Drive process efficiencies and implement improvements, using data-driven insights and critical analysis to refine accounting workflows, increase accuracy, and improve turnaround times.
· Oversee client billing and WIP (work-in-process) valuation for identified clients and evaluate versus revenue targets to optimize recovery and performance.
Competencies
· Knowledge of Canadian GAAP, Accounting Standards for Private Enterprises (ASPE), and Canadian taxation principles.
· Full-cycle Canadian accounting experience.
· Proficient in Excel, demonstrating strong capabilities in advanced formulas, data analysis, pivot tables, VLOOKUP data consolidation, and efficient use of keyboard shortcuts.
· Proficient in MS Office – PowerPoint, Word, Teams, OneNote etc.
· Advanced knowledge of Tax Prep (T1, T2, T3, Forms), Caseware, and Caseview.
· Proven ability to analyze problems and propose solutions.
· Excellent oral and written communication skills with an ability to produce concise clear research, reports, letters, and emails and communicate clearly and concisely with clients.
· Excellent organizational skills with a proven ability to handle multiple priorities and manage projects to timely conclusion.
· Self-starter and team player, able to work independently and collaboratively with various teams in a deadline-focused environment.
· Strong mentoring and performance management skills.
Education and Experience
· CPA, CA or CPA designation possessing a minimum of 5+ years' experience with at least two years in managing teams.
· Public accounting experience with private enterprise clientele.
· Completion of the In-depth tax program is considered an asset.
· Excellent tax knowledge with experience in research and presenting recommendations is considered an asset.
· Review of Corporate, Trust and Personal Tax Returns and an ability to prepare other provincial returns as required.
· Strong team player and have meticulous attention to detail.
