Position: Millwork Finisher

Department: Production/Shop

Shift: 7:00 AM to 4:00 PM (Monday to Thursday) and 7:00 AM to 12:30 PM (Friday)

Location: Aurora, ON

Position Summary

The Millwork Shop Finisher is responsible for preparing, finishing, and detailing architectural millwork products to a high standard of quality. This role includes sanding, staining, sealing, painting, touch-ups, and ensuring all finished materials meet company specifications and client expectations. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, experienced with finishing techniques, and able to work both independently and within a team in a fast-paced production environment.

Responsibilities Include (Not limited too):

Surface Preparation

  • Sand, fill, and prepare wood and veneer surfaces for finishing.
  • Inspect raw components for imperfections and prepare them accordingly.
  • Mix fillers, putties, and other materials for surface correction.

Finishing Application

  • Apply stains, paints, sealers, lacquers, varnishes, and clear coats via spray, wipe, brush, or roll methods.
  • Mix, match, and adjust stains or finishes to achieve required colours and effects.
  • Ensure consistent colour, sheen, and coverage across all pieces.

Quality Control

  • Inspect completed finishes for uniformity, adhesion, defects, and overall appearance.
  • Perform touch-ups on installed or shop-built components as needed.
  • Ensure finished products meet project specifications and quality standards.

Equipment & Safety

  • Operate and maintain spray equipment, sanders, and hand tools.
  • Follow all safety protocols related to chemicals, PPE, ventilation, and fire prevention.
  • Keep finishing booth and work areas clean, organized, and compliant with health & safety standards.

Production & Workflow

  • Prioritize tasks to meet project deadlines and production schedules.
  • Communicate with shop supervisors and project managers regarding material readiness and any issues affecting timelines.
  • Assist in loading, unloading, and moving millwork components as needed.
  • Assist in producing samples to provide for customer approval

Qualifications & Requirements

Education & Experience

  • 2+ years of experience in millwork or woodworking finishing (custom millwork environment preferred).
  • Knowledge of stains, lacquers, catalyzed finishes, water-based products, and appropriate application techniques.

Skills & Competencies

  • Strong attention to detail and colour accuracy.
  • Ability to read and interpret shop drawings and finishing schedules.
  • Knowledge of proper sanding techniques and surface preparation.
  • Ability to troubleshoot finish defects (fisheyes, orange peel, blotches, etc.).
  • Capable of lifting 40–50 lbs and standing for extended periods.
  • Must have reliable transportation
  • Comfortable working in loud/dusty environments (sawdust)
  • Displays a high level of leadership, initiative and teamwork
  • Strong English communication (verbal and written)

Additional Requirements

  • Reliable, punctual, and able to work overtime when required.
  • Valid WHMIS certification an asset.
  • Commitment to safety, cleanliness, and high-quality craftsmanship.

Working Conditions

  • Shop/warehouse environment with exposure to dust, fumes, noise, and finishing chemicals.
  • Use of PPE required (respirator, gloves, eye protection).
  • Physical work involving bending, lifting, and standing

Job Types: Full-time, Permanent

Expected hours: 39.5 per week
