We're looking for an HR Specialist who has strong HR experience in manufacturing and a real passion for recruitment and staffing. This role is key to keeping our facility running smoothly, supporting our people, and helping us grow the team that brings School Safe snacks to life every day.

What You'll Do

Recruitment & Staffing (Major Focus of the Role)

  • Own full-cycle recruitment for production, warehouse, sanitation, office, and leadership roles
  • Build strong, reliable talent pipelines through agencies, community partners, schools, job boards, and referrals
  • Manage staffing agency relationships including negotiating rates, monitoring usage, evaluating performance, and ensuring compliance
  • Coordinate interviews, offers, onboarding, orientation, and required documentation
  • Monitor daily/weekly staffing levels and work with supervisors to ensure labour coverage
  • Develop strategies to improve retention, reduce turnover, and enhance hiring quality
  • Maintain and improve recruitment processes, templates, and tracking systems

People & Culture

  • Provide approachable HR support to employees, supervisors, and leadership
  • Lead onboarding, attendance management, accommodations, and performance support
  • Coach supervisors on communication, consistency, and effective people leadership
  • Support employee engagement efforts, internal communication, and culture initiatives

Health, Safety & Compliance

  • Maintain WSIB documentation, modified work plans, and safety-related training records
  • Support incident follow-up and ensure policies comply with Ontario employment standards
  • Assist with the HR components of audits—including documentation, labour practices, and compliance (experience with SMETA is a strong asset)
  • Keep HR files, data, and reporting organized and up to date

HR Programs & Continuous Improvement

  • Support payroll/hours verification and benefits administration as needed
  • Recommend improvements to HR, recruitment, and administrative processes
  • Contribute to workforce planning and help align staffing with production needs

What You Bring

  • 3–6+ years of HR experience
  • Must have experience supporting a manufacturing environment
     (food manufacturing preferred, but not required)
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to build trust quickly
  • Solid understanding of Ontario employment standards and HR operations
  • Comfortable managing staffing agencies and full scope hiring
  • Professional, discreet handling of confidential matters
  • CHRP/CHRL is an asset
  • Experience completing or supporting a SMETA audit is a strong advantage
  • Experience with WSIB, onboarding, HR systems, or compliance documentation is an asset
