Canada Partner One Capital Full time $1,000,000 - $1,500,000 per year

About Partner One
Partner One is a fast-growing investment group that acquires and operates industry-leading software companies. Our mission is to build strong, sustainable organizations by empowering exceptional people and driving operational excellence across our portfolio. We maintain a decentralized model that allows each business unit to operate with agility while being supported by a global shared services infrastructure.

Description
We are seeking a Business Unit Controller to oversee the financial operations and performance of one or more software business units within the Partner One group. This role will serve as a strategic finance partner to business leadership and report directly to the CFO, playing a key role in ensuring accurate financial reporting, operational efficiency, and data-driven decision-making.

The ideal candidate is hands-on, analytical, and results-oriented, with deep experience in accounting, financial planning, and operational finance within the software industry and complex, multi-entity environments.

Responsibilities

  • An Ideal candidate that can move comfortably between big picture ideas, and the tactics and action steps needed to flawlessly execute them.
  • Oversee all accounting and financial reporting activities for the assigned business unit(s), ensuring compliance with Partner One policies and relevant accounting standards (US GAAP).
  • Lead the monthly, quarterly, and annual closing processes, including revenue recognition, accruals, reconciliations, and preparation of financial statements.
  • Monitor performance of the business unit(s) against targets, providing detailed variance analyses and insights to drive informed business decisions.
  • Develop and maintain key financial and operational metrics, including ARR, churn, deferred revenue, and EBITDA.
  • Partner with business leaders and the CFO to embed a cost-conscious culture focused on accountability, transparency, and value-driven decision-making.
  • Strengthen internal controls, streamline accounting workflows, and ensure financial integrity across systems and processes.
  • Collaborate with centralized finance teams (payroll, tax, treasury, AP/AR) to support efficient end-to-end operations.
  • Contribute to M&A integration efforts, including purchase accounting, opening balance sheets, and system transitions.
  • Manage audits, statutory filings, and compliance with local and international financial regulations.
  • Prioritize mentorship, team building, and coaching to local finance and accounting personnel
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA or equivalent professional designation preferred).
  • 10+ years of progressive experience in accounting or financial management, with at least 3 years in the software industry or a complex, multi-entity corporate environment.
  • Strong understanding of SaaS financial metrics and revenue recognition principles.
  • Proven experience with financial reporting, consolidation, budgeting, and analysis.
  • Proficiency in accounting systems such as Sage Intacct or NetSuite, and strong Excel and financial modeling skills.
  • Excellent analytical, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, remote, and international work environment.
  • An ideal candidate must have demonstrated success in building teams and developing staff.
  • A candidate who is obsessed with process improvement, automation, and finding efficiencies in on-going operations.
