Role Summary: The Truck and Coach Technician is accountable for ensuring the proper functioning and maintenance of heavy machinery and equipment. This role is instrumental in diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining various types of heavy machinery, such as tandem tanker trucks, semi-trailer trucks, box trucks, fuel dispensing systems, fuel storage tanks, pumping systems, locomotive, and ad hoc maintenance equipment.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

Fleet Maintenance: Conduct comprehensive troubleshooting to identify and resolve complex mechanical problems efficiently. Test, diagnose, and repair equipment including diesel/propane- powered lift trucks and heavy equipment. Perform preventative maintenance such as routine maintenance, cleaning, lubrication, necessary repairs to ensure optimal performance and extend the lifespan of heavy machinery. Operate mechanical equipment and air hand tools (e.g., drills, grinders, welding torches). Perform annual safety inspections in accordance with the regulations set by the Ministry of Transportation of Ontario (MTO). Collaborate with other team members to efficiently coordinate repair schedules and ensure timely completion of projects.

Building Maintenance: Conduct general building maintenance, including minor repairs, equipment maintenance, and installations.

Maintenance Operations Administrative and Support Task: Complete maintenance reports, work orders, and required documentation within set timelines. Manage inventory of tools, equipment, and supplies, and restock as needed. Stay updated on industry advancements through ongoing training and professional development activities. Support the training and mentorship of junior mechanics and apprentices.

IDEAL CANDIDATE

  • Location: Must live in Hearst, Ontario, or nearby areas. In-person position only; no possibility of working from home or hybrid.
  • Typical schedule: On-site position. Monday to Friday, 40 hours per week. Occasional overtime required.
  • Travel requirements: 50% of time spent travelling within all Pepco locations in Northern Ontario. Can stay to the travel location depending on the completion of the equipment repair.
  • Licenses and Certifications: Ontario Class A Mechanics license 310T-Truck and Coach.  At least valid G license required. Valid DZ/AZ would be an asset.
  • Physical Requirements: Must have the physical capabilities and strength for lifting and carrying heavy objects, operating equipment, and tools up to 50 lbs. Ability to safely operate required equipment and tools with dexterity. Requires endurance to remain standing, walking and crouching for long periods. May be required to stoop kneel, crouch, crawl, climb, and balance.
  • Experience: Minimum of 5 years of progressive hands-on heavy equipment repair and maintenance experience.
  • Technology: User experience with maintenance software.
  • Additional abilities: Strong verbal and written communication skills, both verbal and written in French and/or English. Experience with maintenance welding is an asset. Knowledge of materials, methods, tools, and equipment required to complete various tasks. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
