Becket Integrated Youth Services (IYS) Newfoundland and Labrador is driving systems transformation, innovation, and impact across the province. Its goal is to improve how youth and their families access mental health, substance use, and wellness supports through an integrated, community-based model. Rooted in the internationally recognized IYS movement, Becket collaborates with communities, service providers, Indigenous leaders, policymakers, and funders, and connects nationally through Canada's growing IYS network.
Choices for Youth (CFY) serves as the administrative host and backbone organization for Becket. In this role, CFY's backbone team convenes partners, supports co-design processes, and advances systems change through project management, strategic planning, knowledge mobilization, and evaluation. The team emphasizes meaningful engagement with youth, families, service providers, Indigenous partners, and system leaders - applying systems thinking, social innovation, and continuous improvement to strengthen the initiative.
Reporting to the Director, Becket IYS, the Engagement Coordinator provides leadership and operational guidance on implementing the IYS model across current and emerging Becket hubs. This role will have a special focus on two new hubs currently in development, with the goal of scaling the network to a total of nine Integrated Youth Hubs. (IYS) Working closely with the Becket leadership team, this position helps manage strategic projects, strengthen partnerships, and scale the IYS model provincewide.
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Engagement Coordinator plays a vital role in ensuring that Becket's work is grounded in meaningful engagement with youth, families, Indigenous partners, and community stakeholders across Newfoundland and Labrador.
This role focuses on relationship-building, communications, and facilitation - helping ensure that diverse voices shape how Becket evolves, expands, and responds to community needs. The Engagement Coordinator will support outreach and engagement activities, foster ongoing relationships with communities, and help create spaces where lived experience and local knowledge guide decision-making.
ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Community & Stakeholder Engagement
- Lead outreach and relationship-building with youth, families, Indigenous governments and organizations, and community partners across Newfoundland and Labrador.
- Plan and facilitate consultations, workshops, and engagement sessions to inform the design, implementation, and evaluation of Becket hubs.
- Support regional steering committees and working groups by coordinating logistics, communications, and follow-up actions.
- Ensure engagement processes reflect the principles of reconciliation, inclusion, and cultural safety.
Youth & Family Involvement
- Support youth and family advisory groups to ensure their perspectives shape Becket's programs and systems.
- Develop accessible engagement tools and materials -such as surveys, focus groups, and feedback forms - to capture youth and family input.
- Work with Becket's leadership team to incorporate lived experience into decision-making and continuous improvement.
Communications & Outreach
- Support the development of engagement reports, summaries, and communications materials that share community insights and outcomes.
- Assist in planning events, launches, and presentations that highlight Becket's impact and partnerships.
- Collaborate with the Becket communications team to share engagement stories and promote transparency across partners and the public.
Knowledge Sharing & Communications
- Lead and support knowledge-sharing initiatives that highlight local insights, best practices, and emerging needs across Becket hubs.
- Prepare engagement summaries, reports, and learning briefs for internal and external partners.
- Collaborate with the Becket communications team to translate engagement outcomes into public materials, presentations, and community updates.
- Help plan and deliver events, learning sessions, and storytelling initiatives that celebrate community partnerships and shared impact.
Systems Collaboration
- Contribute to cross-sector collaboration with government, health, and community partners.
- Identify opportunities to strengthen engagement practices within the broader IYS network.
- Support tracking and reporting on engagement activities, outcomes, and lessons learned.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
- Post-secondary education in community development, social sciences, Indigenous studies, public health, communications, or a related field (or an equivalent combination of education and experience).
- 3–5 years of experience in community engagement, outreach, youth work, or stakeholder relations.
- Demonstrated experience working collaboratively with Indigenous governments, organizations, and communities.
- Strong facilitation, relationship-building, and communication skills.
- Experience engaging youth and families in health, education, or social services is an asset.
- Knowledge of Newfoundland and Labrador's community and cultural landscape.
- Ability to travel throughout the province as required.
WORK HOURS
Regular hours of work for this position are 9:00am-5:00pm Monday to Friday (35 hours per week). Flexibility in work hours will be required to accommodate higher work volumes and organizational requirements, including occasional and emergent need to work evenings and weekends. Hours worked in excess of regular hours will be accounted for in accordance with the overtime provisions of the Personnel, Policy, and Procedure Manual of CFY and the Labour Standards Act NL.
COMPENSATION
The salary for this position is $65, $72,770.88 annually. Choices for Youth offers a competitive compensation package, including a health and dental program, employer-matched RRSP and four weeks' vacation to qualifying employees.
